looking for some ideas for lubricants for folding knives and multitools. currently using a waxed based lubricant by white lightning (actually a bicycle chain lube) on my work knife and multi tool. seems to be working well, cleans while i use it. although i have a new crkt ripple (by ken onion) with the ikbs ball bearing system in the opening mechanism and dont really want to put the wax lube in there fearing the system will get gummed up. anyone have any ideas on what i can use on this knife?

Blue Lube works great on everything for me:thumbup:. Tried Chris Reeve Grease, but that just makes a big mess while any excess Blue Lube is easily wiped off.

I use Break Free CLP......Lubricates excellently. I live 50 yards from the South Atlantic and nothing rusts.

I dunno. I often use a bicycle chain lube myelf. In my case, Rock "N" Roll Gold. I've not had any problems with messing up the actions of any of my knives.

On some knives I use mineral oil, sold in pharmacies as a laxative.

I use Rock "N" Roll on the knives that are hard to open or close. Works wonders.
I use Mineral oil on most of the others.

Another vote for Break Free CLP,it won't get gumed up with sand, grit ,dust and such.

Baby oil(mineral oil) or lately ive been using a aerosol canola oil from Walmart.Works as good as anything else ive used.:eek:If i want to spend a little money on lube,i buy Latama Quick Release.Designed for autos, but works well for anything.

because most, if not all of my knives will be used on food at some point, i use either USP mineral oil and/or vaseline.

I use whatever gun lube I am using at the time. Right now its M-Pro 7.

I used Rem Oil on several of my knives without realizing the food prep consequences. What is the best way to completely remove the lubricant? Can it even be completely removed?

I prefer militec or tuff glide. Both are dry lubricants to prevent lint and junk for sticking to them.

I use CLP or Rem oil. Both work well and self clean. I just douse the knife, work it a bit, blow it out with compressed air, and wipe it all down. I have a billion things more worrisome than ingesting miniscule amounts of lubricants which are probably not even terribly harmful in quantity.... unless, of course, you live in California.

My favorite is Tri-Flow. It contains teflon. Never had any issues with this product.
