Hey guys... it just came in, and I am going to have it online in a few days, but I though you would like a preview of this GOURGEOS bowie.

New mosaic pattern from Luciano, 10" blade, mosaic fittings, lots of filework, some stainless steep spacing and stag. Hope you like it.

Thanks for looking!

Wow! that's awesome. how is that steel made. is it mainly for show or does it hold an edge well.

Absolutely stunning knife  .

The only thing that would somehow bother me is, that the edge of the sheath looks a bit "unfinished". But it's the knife that matters in the end and it looks flawless from here.

Regards,
Marcus

One sweet Bowie! That blade is just gorgeous,as is the Stag.Guard, ferrule and butt cap are top notch and the sheath looks fine to me.

We are working on that Roger... I told Luciano it looks like handmade table portuguese "renda" ... I don´t know the word for that in english... but it´s lie fishnet cloth... but handmade that old portuguese women do... I sugested that for the patterns name. He´s thinking about it.

I was thinking it almost looks like some kind of fine lace. Most striking.

Sorry I missed this.

This knife is very good for cutting. The darkest part of the pattern is W1, and most of the blade is dark. The rest is 15N20 and the final carbon content is pretty good.

The only problem is that when you diferentialy heat treat damascus blades the etch will reveal the temper line as well, so Luciano heat treats his knives in a regular way, unless the costumer specifies he wants diferential HT. Then the temper line will show and sometimes that can ruin the pattern.

no problem BrB. i'm still lost on how the pattern gets in there. i understand the other types of damascus. the twists and folds and such like in the pommel area. but how did that pattern get in the blade. it looks very inticate and complicated. i'm sure the process is very complicated and maybe even proprietary. i understand if you can't get into details. regardless how it is made the pattern is amazing.

Acctualy there is no problem Blaster4

The pattern will be explained in detail on the new book by Dr. David Darom to be publisehd next year. But I can tell you what Luciano Dorneles told me when explaining how to do it. He uses the Steve Filicietti method.

You forge the first billet with the design you want. Use that billet to form any picetures you want. Let´s say you want diamond shaped mosaic damascus.

Forge a regular billet. Cut it into 4 diferent bars. Grind them to triangular section and weld the four of them. You will get a diamond of paralel layers right?

Then draw length and cut four of those. Forge weld them side by side and up and down and you will get a square of four diamonds. Do it again and you will get a square of 16 diamonds.

Here is the trick now, draw length and slice the bar in 45 degrees cuts. The 45 degrees ramp formed by the cut will be forge welded to the next ramp, that way you get a clear and strong weld that doesn´r deform the pattern.

Now plaing with the images on it is pure creativity of how you arrange the diferent steel bars on the first basic billet you start with.

Hope this little explanation helps. If you have any question just ask and I will try to get the answers for you.
