Lucite Buck Id

Jazzyjo1

You have a Pre factory Buck knife that dates 1946-1947 (group2). Black Lucite was an option first used in this group, and they came in a varity of different colors. The sheath is original to the knife and that is determined by the BUCK stamp on the front of the sheath. The sheath is rare and harder to find than the knife. I can't tell what model the knife is, because it is in pretty bad shape. I would imagine that it may have been longer and a bit thicker, like a 105. The 105 was the most popular model of knife. Its a great piece of Buck history.

Thats a cool knife! Whenever you see multi colored lucite like yours, it means Hoyt Buck was fishing through the scrap or remnant bin at the plastics supplier he used in San Diego. Once he started using mail order ads in 1947, the colors became standard. YOu could get green, red or blue solid handles with a thin white stripe in the middle. Black was added very soon after. Thanks for sharing the pics!

This was a one hitter quitter, and off to the auction site with info. I regret to inform some people about their knives, because I fear that the info gets cut and pasted on an auction listing. The funny thing is, that although the information that was given, was great information and otherwise couldn't have been found out, it didn't make it to the listing. O' Well. happy selling...
