It has been a very busy last few days of days with early mornings and late nights so many friends and it is hard to spend time with all of them in four days.
Thursday dinner was fun and it was great to meet some of you folks for the first time. I am glad each of you were able to come. It looks like I need to find a place that can handle 50 or 60 folks next year since we got split up into two groups. :grumpy:.
Now the luck part.
Most of you know that Tony and Reese have drawings for the right to purchase the knives they bring to Blade. I have been participating at these for years and in the past have actually won one. This year the number of folks participating "raffle" for the purchase rights was by far the largest I have seen. I about fell over when my name was called once, but when it was called twice, Gig had to prop me up for a little while
.
Once on a new patterned serpentine trapper by Tony and once for a perl doctor knife by Reece.
Earlier in the day, GigOne lucked out and piced up a drop dead toothpick from Joel Chamblin's drawing (I did not get lucky in Joel's raffle, but I had lent him a couple of antiques for ideas on a knife and took delivery of it so it did not hurt too bad and Gig's snag took away the pain
).
I was fortunate to win the rights to a very elegant black pearl Dr's knife made by Richard Rogers during his drawing.
Joel and Richard were perstered so much that I think they did the right thing to also have drawings. They are a lot of fun win or loose and I loose most of the time.
Along with a lockback I was able to pick up from Kit Carson and Ray Kirk's test Quillion Dagger my Blade show purchases were 100% "traditional" this year.
I got in line for Ray's dagger 5 years ago and it was great to celebrate his M.S. qualification with him and his wife. He is a man of the highest character.
This Kit guy is an incredible friend knives aside. He looked the best I have seen him in years and seeing him that happy and it good healt was great. I had talked to him a while back about a small carry knife. (That is about all I said.) On Friday morning he handed me a lock back in bone (first one he had made in around 10 years.) This little pup is destined to be in my pocket on most days. I hope each of you has had or will have the chance to own and use a knife made by a friend. Words can not describe the enjoyment of that experience.
