First off, travel sucks pretty much any more, leaving family, home and friends
for destinations unknown, not for vacation or holiday mind you, but for work...
lately just drags me down, must be getting old?

Sitting in the Philly airport right now, heading home after 2 weeks away for work
my wife calls me late in the day yesterday, crying like crazy and sobs that
"Don't worry, no one was hurt..." while she gathers herself to continue my
mind was racing to figure out what had happened!
A guy shot out of a parking lot and ran into the side of my wife's van,
taking out the rear driver's tire and crunching most of that side too.
She was on her way to bring our grandsons back to their dad as he was
getting out of work, she baby sits for them while my daughter and son-in-law
work.

Took a while before the State Troopers showed up, but they are a bit away from
that part of the county, but he was very kind and helped to put the spare tire
on, it would drive but very shaky, she was only about 3 miles from home.
So she limped the van back to the house once all the info was exchanged.

Just a very nerve wracking day and night, won't be home until around 4pm
tonight, IF the flight leaves on time...

No glass broke, so the kids just got jostled about in their car seats,
my oldest grandson asked "...why didn't that guy hit a tree instead of grandma's van??"
I guess it didn't make sense to him why someone would do such a thing, he's
just turned 4 so this will be a story for him to tell for a while.

Well, back to waiting on the flight home :(

I'm sure glad nobody was hurt.
Since I spend roughly 360 days a year away from home, I know what you are saying. I'm constantly worrying that something will happen at home and I will be unable to do anything.
I hope when you get home you find things in better shape than you expect them to be.

I'm sure it is very disconcerting for you, especially while you are away, but considering the "good" outcome (in relative terms), I'd say thats a happy ending. There are lots of good things to think about here, rather than the bad. (Phil 4:8).

Thanks guys and yes, things could have gone south pretty quickly but
they were being watched after and as I just told a friend, it may be that
it is the push we need to move to a newer van as our youngest daughter
goes off to college the end of next month and we'd be driving her out
to Marion Indiana, a bit of a drive and our van might not have made the
trip as well as we'd like it to. Of course, we're not prepared to get another
car payment right now, but, safer is always better!

edited add, Protourist, that is a VERY high level of travel !! Stay safe out there!

Thank you sir. I am being watched over in addition to being safe.;)

Car seats? Are we talking regular seats IN a car, or removable child safety seats? If the latter, consult your insurance claims IMMEDIATELY. Child safety seats are required to be replaced after any accident, as there might be structural issues that are invisible to the naked eye that. Good to hear no one was hurt.

I am glad that no one was hurt. I am sure it is very disconcerting to be away, and get a call like that. Hugs & prayers out to you and your family.

I love traveling, but airports SUCK.

About the van wreck, be thankful that no one was hurt. And wouldn't it have happened whether you were home or not?

Thanks for the tip Zero, I'll be sure to question that!!
and TKC, appreciate that too!

and yep, it'd probably would have still happened, but
instead of over a thousand miles away, I'd have been
there to consul her, she's having trouble enough with
our daughter preparing to leave, this really compounded
her emotional state and not in a good way.

Glad to hear that everyone is okay!

Gary,
Your wife's story reminds me of an odd happening to me on the freeway. I was in Reseda CA on the 118 Fwy doing approx 75 when some guy hits my back bumper! I could barely believe it. We both pull over to the shoulder. I am a little miffed but not mad, I mean I was doing 75! So, I get out and look, there is no damage to my truck bumper, his car's grille and center logo were gone, and definitely took all of the impact. He was visibly emotionally shaken, and could not even explain to me why he hit me. I told him to pull off the freeway to get settled down, I reminded him that he had 2 girls in his car. We did not even exchange information and I merged back into the flow of traffic. I did not go but 2 miles and the freeway was littered with empty blue 55 gal drums (water storage). There was a nasty accident that ensued. I tend to believe that God had a hand in keeping me out of something really nasty. Possibly this is what happenned to your wife as well. I dare say it may have been a blessing. A destiny relocation of sorts. God bless you and your family sir.

Appreciate the good thoughts and yes I agree, things do happen for a reason!
Well today we wrap up this little drama, finally took possesion of our replacement
vehicle, a 2008 Kia Sorento with only 18,000 miles on it, boy does it drive nice!
Here's a couple of quick shots of the SUV outside of our house.
