When the Basic 10 LE was originally announced I came to the decision that I would not be buying one. I already have a Basic 11 that is one of my "go to" blades. It gets used as much as any of my other Busse's including my favorite (ASH-1). I couldn't justify buying it and having to sell some INFI when my credit card bill comes in.
Then Jerry announced that there would be a choiless option. Let me say first and foremost that I LOVE choils! It is one of the features that first attracted me to Busse knives. However, the idea of having a choiless Res-C/INFI chopper was starting to enter my mind. I tossed it around but was waiting for the price.......I figured it would be the same as the satin B11's at Knob Creek this past spring........$399 if my memory serves me well (which it usually doesn't...at least short term
).
Then Jerry announced the price.........geeezzz....he sure is making it hard on a fella to resist more INFI! But I stayed strong and decided I didn't need it.....it probably wouldn't satisfy me more than my B11 anyway.
Monday night I had an online meeting for one of my graduate classes......this class sucks!!!! Being a teacher and having to go back to school to get your masters and pay for it yourself also sucks!!!!! *back on topic* After the meeting I continued to slam Hop-a-lot IPA's and had a bite of dinner. It was around 9:30 or so and my wife was getting our daughter asleep so I opened up the laptop to check out the forums.......having completely forgot that it was Ganza night......I told you I was strong and was going to resist buying one.
I saw a fake "go" thread and thought, "Is it a ganza night?".......scrolled to the bottom of the page......yep....crowded room..........Ganza night! I clicked on the B10 LE specs page and looked at the pics again.......this time, being intoxicated from super tasty, super hoppy beer.......I decided to fill out an e-mail and save it in my draft folder in case I changed my mind in the next 10 days. For some odd reason (see previous sentence), I requested a 4 digit number(#1323), not the same 3 digit number which I requested and got on my Basic 6 LE (#413), or not #13 or #23, I requested #1323. Sheeesh. ........
.....I clicked back over to the forums.......saw a "go" thread by the real Jerry.....and my "drunken Ganza muscle memory" took over...........before I blinked I had clicked back over to email and hit the send button.......or did I accidentally click send before I switched back to the forums? .......It's all a blur....
It was my first ganza that I wasn't glued to the computer hitting F5 for an hour. It was also the first ganza I hadn't really thought about every waking minute afterward, or even wondered how fast I was.
Today while grading some quizzes my phone dinged......opened it up.......an email from Amy-0 stating that I would be getting a Basic 10 LE in 8 weeks or so. I replied to thank her for the email and ask if I got my number (#1323).
Her reply was short and very sweet, and I quote, "Matt, we do not offer 4 digit numbers....but you got #1 with NO CHOIL". I could hardly believe it. I had to make sure she didn't make a typo. What was I thinking......Amy-0 doesn't make typo's!
I got #1! I reckon I'll be drinking more heavily again come next Ganza!
I guess I won't be able to beat on this one...........and I sure can't afford a second B10 LE to beat on!
Did I get the "official" first ever choiless Busse from the Basic line? I'm stoked!
Thanks Busse crew!
