Lucky me: two OVB's in one shot

My 5 year wedding anniversary is coming up this Saturday, and the Mrs. decided to get me, for this special day:

1) Camillus Southwest OVB bowie in Desert Ironwood

2) Camillus 7" OVB bowie in Desert Ironwood

I'm quite ecstatic, to have these two babies (which I've been eyeing for a couple of years now), and to have a wife who loves me enough to understand (and enable) my knife knuttiness. She bought them on 1sks.com btw.

I have a question:

How do you care for these knives? Tuf cloth for the blades? Or do you recommend something else? How even should they be cleaned and oiled?

How do you care for the handles? What type of oil for them?

Most importantly, how should they be stored? I once read that such knives should be stored in cotton socks, because they stay dry that way? Is this true? Any suggestions?

Thanks a bunch, and I'll let you know when I receive them.

Congrats! On the 5 years and the knives. :D I just received a nib OVB Bowie w/ironwood (7" model) that i picked up off the forums. The only thing I have done and probably the only thing I will do is to coat the handle, blade, and leather sheath with a good coating of Ren. Wax. You can also use Johnsons Paste Wax (yellow and red can), but I would test it on the backside of the sheath first to make sure no color change occurs. The Ren. Wax worked perfect with no color changes in the leather.

Waxing the handle the blade is a good thing to do. Use the tuff cloth on top of that. If or when you are not using it, then store in the little cardboard slip and leave it in the zippered bag. Never store them in the sheath. Leave the zippered bag open about an inch. That will give it enough air to breath fine.
Those are nice pieces you will enjoy them.
Happy anniversary

Thank you both for the great advice.

And thank you Jerry for the well-wishes on my anniversary! I've looked at the Camillus Fisk OVB's for years, and have always read such wonderful things about them. They have honestly gone beyond all my expectations. They're so light and well-balanced, the blade cuts exquisitely, the handle fits like a glove. EVERYTHING about these two bowies are first rate. They're going to see some action this x-mas when my wife and I visit her parents' farm (branch cutting, rope cutting, etc.). I'm going to be happy with these 2 for a VERY long, long time. :)

4 Ranges,

I think it's great that Jerry has not only posted advice for you but best wishes for your anniversary. :) Jerry Fisk is unquestionably one of the premier makers of all time. To have willingly collaborated with Camillus on the these knives is a testiment to his unselfishness given how hard it is to come by one of his blades. Here's his web site: http://www.fisk-knives.com/

I too am blessed as I have 3 of the 7" blades.

Love that pic. I saved it when you first posted it. In fact, that pic is my inspiration to get the 11" and 7" in fiddleback maple and amboyna (although I think the amboyna only came out in 7").
