A little while ago, Charles Vestal posted up a picture of a chute knife he'd made. When I saw it, it was love at first sight.
I contacted Charles and ordered one for myself, and having been told it would be a couple of years, I reconciled myself to the wait. It's not that hard for me, since I already have more knives than I know what to do with. I'm sure that some of you can relate:D

Only a few days went by, when serendipity allowed me to discover Marcus Lin's version of the exact same Loveless patterned knife available for sale in Bladeforums' custom knife classifieds. I jumped on the chance, and scooped up this knife having gotten a SMOKING great deal on it, (thanks Jack Hansen!).

One thing that I really appreciate about Bob Loveless and those who chose to carry on his tradition and approach to making knives is that you can be pretty sure about what you're gonna get. If the maker follows Loveless' patterns faithfully, there won't be much deviation. Sure, there are many subtle differences to the afficionado, but to a guy like me if I like a pattern, there are a few dudes out there who can supply it. This is kind of a strange thing in custom knives, but I really appreciate it, mostly because Loveless endorsed this kind of thing. Free sourcing at its finest imo!

This knife, with its 1/4" thick ATS34 blade, has a reassuring weight to it and will accompany me on many an adventure. This morning, I had an hour or so before work to get out for a quick hike so I slung my new knife on my belt, stuck my camera in my pocket and hit the trail. I'm just so stoked on this knife that I felt I had to share my excitement with you my forum pals:).

PS. I didn't cancel my order with Charles, but I did change it. Care to make a guess as to what it changed to?

Nice knife. My guess is some how you will beef up a loveless design to make it chop! haha

Awww man...you goobered it up. Its only supposed to live in a drawer ;)

Forgot to mention that I much prefer this maker's mark. My Lin Chute is marked similarly.

Bob would've been proud?:D
Hopefully Marcus is, he made a hell of a good knife here

trying to figure out how to slide the guard over a khukuri blade :)
good guess, but I'm at the other end of the spectrum Jon....hint hint

Always love to see a knife actually being used.

Great looking knife, and thanks for not only showing it, but for using it.

Great lookin' chute there, Lorien. My favorite Loveless-style makers are Marcus and Charles.

It must have been a "chute" day for both of us - I was in Solvang, showing Dave Harvey a chute of my own, earlier today.

Again, very nice, and looks to be getting good use from it's new owner.

Mike you are good! It was a toss up between a NY special and...
