Been wishing for a legacy 8OT for a long time. The stars finally aligned, and I was very fortunate to get this one.

First edition of the 8OT, came out in 1961 I believe, along with the 2OT.

I believe this was the pre-release flyer from 1960 for the first two Old Timers.

The rewards of a diligent hunt!!

Really nice! I like the match striker pulls from back then: old school. Great bone handles and box looks about a week old.:)

Great find. Great to see them in such good shape.
Thanks for making me jealous all over again!

Update on the 8OT's history. They were first available 2/1/1960
The 2OT was available a year earlier 3/1959.

Thanks Larry. Do you know how long the 2OT was available, or when the 8OT switched to Delrin? Also, do you know if the Delrin 8OT was initially offered in the wood box?

Hal,
Interesting questions.
The 2OT was only made for 4 years and was not in the 1965 production numbers. With only 500 were made in 1964.
The 8OT was advertised as "Meerschaum" Bone until 1969 when the entire line of OT was advertised as Meerlon. From 1970 they were called stagalon (previously used on UH's) The wooden box was changed to "wood grained" in 1965.
What I dont know is when the meerschaum was changed to meerlon/delrin if it was in a wooden box.
My guess is that meerschum was a form of delrin after 1963 and was in a sold in wooden box.
P.S. Delrin has been a registered trademark since 1953 and the trademark is still owned by dupont.

Thanks for the information Larry. Why do you suppose the 2OT is not shown in the 1962, 1963, or 1964 catalog sheets?
