I got this little axe at an antique store in Wisconsin. The head weighs just under 2 lbs and appears to be on a cut down haft. It looks likes it is hand stamped with an "S" made of only straight lines. I'm very curious about its origins, if any one has any info or can even recommend where to look i would appreciate it.

I don’t recognize the marking on it but
Several Swedish makers made a “Wira” pattern that is similarly small and has pointed lugs.

The flat top from poll to toe and that slight drop behind the lugs into the poll sort of makes me think American.

So, I don’t know lol.
I like it though.

Looks factory to me, early 20th century I guess. The way that poll drops down like that will be of note. Just got to find out who was making a ~2lb Carolina pattern, to include imports.

Thanks for all the input guys. Few more pics...

I do not know anybody who manufactured South Carolina Boy's axes. For some reason I keep thinking Maine or Vermont as origin of this axe. I wonder if it is has overlaid bit.
Wire brush and some cleaning would probably help a bit. A picture showing surface inside the eye could be interesting, too.
