I recently decided to purchase another set of PM2 scales from Lucas at Cuscadi to put on my ELMAX exclusive. I opted for a weathered burgundy linen Micarta. They arrived this week - and once again, Lucas did a marvelous job. The scales fit like a glove and the knife has a great action once the scales were installed and the pivot adjusted. Even better, the Micarta is a few grams lighter than G10 and the grip is fantastic - slightly warm and "organic" to the touch. A great improvement over the stock scales.

For those of you might remember, I did this same treatment to my CTS-20CP PM2 a couple of years ago. I included a couple of pictures of these two knives side-by-side for comparison. The 20CP knife was about the same color as the ELMAX when it was new. But over the past couple of years, the scales have taken on a wonderful patina with use. I have to say, this is probably my favorite of all the hundreds of knives I've owned over the past 50 years - bar none.

And now, the 20CP blade has a brother!

Very nice! One of my favorite things about custom scales is you don't have all the additional holes for the pocket clip locations you don't use.

That looks fantastic!

Now how did you get that lanyard tube out??? I hope the method that you so graciously provide is easy. :confused:

Well, it isn't easy, but it does work without messing up the tube. First, I remove all the screws, blade, spacers, pin, etc. Then I twist the handles/liners so that one of the scales/liners pops off.

To get the lanyard tube out of the remaining scale, go find a wooden dowel that is exactly 0.25" (1/4") in diameter. Press this into the lanyard tube from the scale side and gently work it through, rocking it back and forth. This takes some patience, but it does work. The wood is soft enough that it won't damage the tube or liner. You can also use an arbor press or drill press with the wooden dowel to get more leverage...

Good luck!

I was gonna get custom scales for my DLC manix, but could not get the lanyard tube out for the life of me! That's when I just said "screw it" and use the hell out of it now.

@phillipsted---> Thanks! I greatly appreciate you taking the time to explain that to me.

@Blues Bender---> My thoughts exactly! :thumbup: :)
