Good Day,

I am a huge fan of the Spyderco Lightweights.

So, ever since the Lum appeared on the Spyderco drawing board I have been hoping and praying for one thing.

A Spyderco Bob Lum Chinese Lightweight.

Oh, I can see it now, those ergo FRN scales, a reversible clip, a -lockback-, and that wonderful Lum Chinese shape.

Please tell me that this is coming.

There is a possiblilty of a lightweight. Sal had said in the past that if sales were good a lightweight may be issued. We'll just have to weight and see. :)

Hi Marion. That decision will be based on sales. When we first began the design, I had thoughts that it might be popular enough to create an FRN version. I don;t think a lockback is possible though. Not enough room in there for that large blade and a lockback lever.

Sorry to bug ya Mr. Glesser, but would a "compression" lock fit in behind the blade?? :) Just wondering.

I would also be interested in a lightweight version of the Lum Chinese...

(Just make it a neat color and texture though...)

Hi Blades. It probably would.

IMO a compression lock would be great for the large size Lum Chinese folder, especially if finished in a more utilitarian pattern, say with textured micarta scales (gads, someone save me from black G10!) instead of slick almite. The mid-size Lum Chinese with Almite and linerlock is a great gents/city knife, but a large Lum Chinese with a heavy duty lock and field grade scale material would make a great hard-use utility.

I'm voting on full-sized (3,5-4") Chinese Folder with colored G-10 handle. It might have the same internal construction as Military and Starmate - both work nicely for me. In my opinion it is nothing wrong with liner lock, especially in SPYDERCO execution.

BTW, my main complaint about new Compression Lock is that holds blade's closed position even worse than good liner lock with decently placed detent ball. This one on my Chinese is simply excellent!
