how do you guys think the lum Chinese in carbon fiber would be as a dress knife? I've had my eye on it for a while. mostly I'm curious about the fit and finish

if not then what other under $200 spyderco would be good as a dress knife?

It looks very nice. Another knife of similar size that might work is the Sage 1. For something a little smaller try the Chaparral.

Fit and finish on my sample is top notch, though I've read some complaints about a rough finish on the edges of the scales where the screws go into the handle. The knife has a very smooth surface though, regular CF is more 'grippy'.

I do not like the handle material on this model. It is too shiny for me. In the past Spyderco made many great looking gents knives: Kopa, Kiwi, small bolstered Persian, Vieles, micro-Dyads. Out of current production I would recommend Chaparral. Also for some reasons, somehow quite a few small bolstered. Persians surface on e-bay recently and they go just few buck over $110, which I consider a good deal. I would grab one, if you are on the market for gents knife. This will not last long. The model was discontinued couple years ago.

This version of the Lum Chinese appears to have a piece of plastic in the pivot area. It gives the action a different feel than the original, metal handled versions. I had the original blue and still have the original green, two black zdps, a tan/green in vg10, and this new one. I like them all better than the new one.
