This was a big moment. The first fixed blade of my collection. The Lum Tanto (FB03) Thank you ebay. First impressions, stocky, very thick spine. AUS8A steel was very sharp out of the box (not quite Ronin Sharp).

The “apple-seed” grind on the tip scares me for sharpening, but it couldn’t be that hard, right? Everyone complains about the sheath.

Me too. It's huge. Too big unless you are perfectly cylindrical in shape and do not bend in the middle. So, any certified knut invests in the optional carrying system. I chose River City Sheaths, and this is much more like it. Check out the space savings.Lots of carry options.

The first night I got it I tried to use it for cooking. Meat cutting=good. Veggie slicing=not-so-good. The blade thickness is not ideal for thinly slicing onion or small mushrooms, but many utility knives (except the thinnest) let down on this task. It was superb to fractionalize my steak later that evening. I got this one for light hiking/camping, it looks like a winner.

Here’s a family portrait for size comparison:

I beleive I have pics up on the spyderco.com forum with my O/ST "Normark" lumto rig. I got both the g-clip(standard from him) and tek. G-clip allows cant, as well as iwb and boot carry.

The hamugari grind at the tip is just a simple convex. Mousepad and sandpaper. Use regular stones for the main edge.

That is one great-looking rig! I've been trying to get my hands on a Lum; got it on my "wanted" list on my trade post. At least I now know which sheath to buy when I get one. Thanks for sharing the pic.

That is a very nice set up, so nice I might actually carry my Lum if I had a kydex sheath like that :D If Mike ever answers one of my phone calls or emails I might ask him to add that to my order although after 4 months maybe I shouldn't ask for anything other than my first set of 3 sheathes back
