I know this topic has been discused before but I can't recall any resolution in the matter. This knife is one of the best production fixed blades available. I know Mr. Lum often provides leather sheaths with his customs and his leather work is excellent, but the production model really should be matched with kydex. All of the other Spyderco fixed blades are offered with kydex, why not the Lum? The Spyderco kydex sheaths are great, I checked out the Perrin and the Moran sheaths and wondered why these weren't available with the Lum. This is the only thing that's preventing me from buying it. Let's hear some other forumites opinions!

:grumpy:

Just order one from Mike Sastre at River City Sheaths. It'll run you about $30 but it will be some of the best money you've ever spent on a knife accessory. His work is top notch and you won't have to send away they Lum: he's already making them.

Even though the factory sheath for the Perrin is pretty good, I bought the drawpoint from Mike Sastre. Haven't looked back since.

Thanks for the info TOC. Yes, Mike's work is excellent, but for the price of the Lum, I would prefer that kydex be available with the package and spending an extra $30 for custom Kydex should be an after market option if one is not satisfied with the factory supplied kydex (not leather). Perhaps Mr. Lum is not satisfied with the kydex and opted for the leather. If this is the case, I would humbly ask the designer to please consider kydex for the Spyderco Tanto FB. It would be a nice option. ;)

Are there others who think it is a miscalculation for Spyderco to forego kydex on this model? Not trying to ruffle any feathers, just a devoted Spyderco fan.

Hi Kublai. Actually we labored over the sheath for some time. We plan to make a kydex sheath available for the model in the future. Currently Mike Sastre's sheaths are hard to beat if you're hunting an aftermarket piece.

Our kydex sheath production is a little behind right now. SPOT sheaths are in the works with the Tempeance Sheaths. Ronins are expected soon and Ronin Sheaths will follow SPOTs, so the Lum Kydex sheath is a ways off at this time.

I've got three of the LUM fixed blades. I love that knife. I'm keeping two for the collection and one for a user. It would be great if Spyderco would eventually make the larger version.

I don't mind the current sheath that much. I just wish that it was black leather instead of the current color.
