I just traded my tanto for a Chinese (the latter might arrive today). I know that the Chinese has now-legendary levels of quality, but I found the tanto to be right up there. A stiffer detent doesn't necessarily mean better quality; it just means that the blade stays in the handle better. Some people would consider this a problem. The tanto opens very easily and smoothly.

Quality was the wrong word.

I just like the blade stops on the Chinese better.

I like the size of the Tanto better.

Both are very well made.

Nice pic there! I seem to recognize that Chinese folder a bit, especially that fob at the end....

I owned that one for a while and traded for the Tanto, Tanto is larger and a way different blade shape, while I liked the Chinese I just found that I never took it out, I will probably use the Tanto as it seems a bit tougher.

Hey Gary

They make a nice pair. I'm at work today but I'm carrying the Chinese.

I just looked one of these knives over while out of town at a conference. There was a fairly large knife store just down from the hotel. It was a really cool knife! I nearly left with it but thought I could get a better deal from one of our supporters here at BF. I will buy a Chinese folder! The handling, and thin build, slightly different unique look, wide, thin flat ground VG-10 blade all make this one super neat knife. The only drawback-it's a liner lock, That's not terrible, I'd just prefer something different. Still, it's a cool knife.

Shmackey,
Is yours serrated or plain edge?? I thought the V(I think its for "variant")was for the plain edge. Hope this helps.

I've just had my Chinese(plain blade) for a couple of weeks, so it doesn't have much carry time, but two observations:1. It has one of the most positive liner locks I have seen (and I must own 50). 2.It is razor sharp right out of the box, even compared to Spyderco standards! It should fill the same niche as the Native, given the similarity in size and shape of the blade. (Did I mention that it just looks great too?)

Wow Shootz, what a nice picture! :)

I'm extremely pleasured with mine, it's very elegant and pretty looking (btw, not people scarring) city/gentleman's carry folder. Classy design, flawless execution.
Mine is #512 plain edged.
What finally means this "V"?

Maybe bigger working version now?

What finally means this "V"?
The "V" means variant as Blades said and appears on collectors' knives (numbers less than 200) to disinguish the knife from the main collectors' edition. In the case of the Chinese Folder the collectors' knife was serrated but the owner of the number (#094 in this case) can get a plain edge with his/her number and the "V". The idea is to allow collectors to get all the variants of a particular knife with their number on it.

can't argue with you on the quality, fit and finish on the Lum Chinese Folder!! ;) Its an excellent utility knife!! :D
