Lum Spyderco Tanto help please? Spyderco help?

If my memory serves me (worked at Spydie during this time), there were 40 of the Lum's marked Production Prototype. Perhaps someone from the factory can confirm.

You really should hang on to that one. Spyderco is not in the habit of selling prototypes. Odds are it was either a gift or came from an employee (legally or otherwise).

Welcome to BF! Very nice looking knife. The folks over at Spyderco's official forum might be able to help, too. Link

Hi H7o Global,

As Thomas mentioned. We did a short test run of the model with prodcution tooling and marked the pieces as a production prototype. Some time later, we did a production run of the same model with the same tooling.

This is one of the reasons that I love BF. Where else can you get folks who are so knowledgeable in the industry sharing with the end users?:thumbup::thumbup:

While I don't like tanto blades, that sure is a wonderful knife. I didn't know it in fact. It would be cool if Spyderco made it again in a sprint run.

It sure would hint hint ;). I would absolutely LOVE to see a sprint run of this model but instead of titanium scales with a liner lock, a RIL. That just might be a grail knife for me! We don't get many choices around these parts for true tanto styles such as this.

I inquired about this a while ago on the spyderco forums (or was it here?...don't remember). Sal mentioned that they wouldn't consider making another Lum tanto until the other production Lum tanto is at least discontinued.

I just joined BF yesterday, I also posted the same request for information on the Spyderco forum where one member suggested that I call Spyderco, however, when I received the answers from the most knowledgeable people in the field I was quite shocked and very pleased. I agree, this is a wonderful site.

Thanks again.
H7o Global

Glad you had a great first experience, there is literally TONS of information on here. The only tough part is where to begin, hehe.
Cheers!
