I just got a Lum Tanto for my son. The blade steel is ATS-55. I have no experience with this steel. I believe it has extra copper content, but I am not sure. Can you tell me about this steel?
My son uses a knife all day long, and since he he wears gloves and a freezer suit often, the HOLE is great for him. (He has worn out two Enduras.) In the description of this Lum, the handles are Ti. Are the liners Ti. as well? I can't imagine that they wouldnt be. Sal, the blade was extremely sharp out of the box, however, from the tip to the "bend" on the blade needed some touch up. Looked to me like the sharpening process ended there. I think this knife will serve my son well. Let you know...Thanks!!

I like ATS-55, as much or more-so than ATS-34. Pretty easy to sharpen, holds its edge very well, and will take a nice keen edge. I think your son will like it. Good choice!

I think not too log ago someone asked about the kind of grind on the Lum. I think Sal stated that if you sharpen the tip you could loose some of the lines to the grind. He used a Japanese term to describe the kind of grind. Maybe that thread wil help. I have a Lum and think it is great.
