Luminox: Yao or Stock?

My EDC watch is an Omega SMP, and I love it and wear it everyday. My only problem comes when I will be doing some rough work that would likely beat up the watch. I am talking really dirty nasty stuff here like construction, automotive work, or landscaping work. I end up taking it off, yet wishing I still had a watch on so I could keep track of time.

I decided on the Luminox because it is a quartz so should be plenty tough to deal with the beating of this type of work, and doesn't require any action on my part to keep the correct time. Also it just plain looks cool, and uses tritium vials for illumination. At the moment I am leaning toward the Yao version with a non date face, and rhino band. Any reason that I should just search eBay for a stock watch? From what I have been seeing there isn't that much of a price difference between them.

Also, does anybody know about what the current wait time is on one of the Yao Luminox watches?

TIA

The Yao 3101 is $260. I can get Luminox @ wholesale, where I work. The 3101 is roughly $150 wholesale. I paid roughly $100 for a new dial, work AND a shapphire crystal. Total+ $250, including shipping, AND I got a sapphire crystal.

If you can get the Luminox that you want on ebay for less than wholesale, and it is in good shape, go for it. The Yao work MAKES the watch. I sterilized the back myself, and at this point, one would be hard pressed to know that it is not a Stocker & Yale, except for the traser'd second sweep hand, making the Luminox superior in my book.

Bill's lead time is about 4-5 weeks from receiving payment. E-mail him first, it will take him a week or two to get back to you. He does excellent work. I had replaced my crystal through the "official" Luminox service center, and there was some lint on the face of the dial when I got it back. Bill's work is clean and crisp. Cannot say enough good things about him.

Traser effectively makes Luminox watches. they are sold as Traser overseas, and as Luminox in the US.

The base model P6500 can be bought for arond $125.

They are also available in SS and Titanium cases. They have a more military look, IMHO.

My onnly problem with that is that I haven't really seen any without the date windows. I really would prefer one without so that I could just have a watch that I pretty much only need to correct twice a year for daylight savings.

I do agree with you thugh that the Traser watches look much better than the luminox. I am really turned off by all of the bright colors and Navy Seals logos.

One more question, about the band. Which do you think would be better for hard work the rubber or NATO nylon band? My only concern with the NATO style band is that it will absorb anything that might spill on it such as oil if I am working on my car. Would the band readily absorb such things and hold them forever?

TIA.

Nylon straps are washable but rubber is really easy to keep clean. Straps are cheap -- just try some and see which you like. Your preferences are likely to change from time to time; if you buy a variety you'll probably use them all at one time or another.

I'd go with the stock model black face on black rubber band personally. I used to think Luminox was a Joke, I am used to Citizens and Seikos (mostly). I actually checked out a navy seal watch in person the other day and was very impressed, I still think the Seiko 007 is tougher but I want a navy seal watch also after seeing them, what is a good price to pay for one I've seen them btn 150-225 USD.
