How many are devoted followers of the lunar tables for hunting and fishing? I'm just curious.

I took the day off so I could spend a few days with the kids on their spring break. They wanted to go fishing today, so I thought I'd look up the lunar table just to see what it said.

According to the table, today was above average and the best time would be between 12:17pm and 2:17pm. We hit one of the family ponds just around 11:30am. Just about noon, the action started and it was non-stop until 2:15pm. Between myself, my 3 boys, and the son of one of my buddies, we caught over 70 fish. Bait was redworms, night crawlers, and I was tossing a 1/8oz white roostertail.

Most of the fish were panfish.... bluegills and sunfish with the majority of them being bigger than a coffee cup saucer. I caught quite a few largemouth on the roostertail, up to around 14" or so.

It worked out well. We ran out of bait at 2:30pm. :D

I've never really looked at the lunar tables much, as whenever I get the chance, I hit the water. I'm definitely going to print them out to use as reference now.

I'm not much of a fisherman, but my general opinion is that regardless of what the tables say, you see more deer when out in the field than you do in bed. I may favor a favorable nod from the solunar tables, but I don't let a less than favorable rec prevent me from getting afield...

I do look them up as a guide, same as weather patterns (barometric change). But I don't live and die by them.

I go out whenever I can. I may time it to coincide with the lunar table and weather patterns if I can but not a necessity. Hit or miss you never really know until your out there, so I get out whenever I can.

Hell, I tried today, gloomy and raining out, fishing supposed to be good today, and my van died right after driving down the road a few hundred feet.

I was saltwater fishing the other day and the fish turned on to the bite right around the major feed time, it also coincided with a high tide (around 4:30 pm).
I also see more wildgame movement when the major or minor feed times are around the same times as sunrise and sunset, throw in a full or new moon and your chances are greater.

There might be something to them, I dont know. never paid any attention to them. i choose where and when to fish by weather and water conditions. My last outing the conditions were about perfect for early April. I think the fish would have bit no matter what the lunar tables suggested. Im gonna look it up to see what they were that day.

Looked up the solunar tables for Friday and it was below average . The fishing that day was terrific. The weather was cloudy and the water calm. They were pumping water out of the ditches creating a current that postioned bass on ambush spots. Very predictable outcome , a good case of bass thumb.
