Lundin article

Yeah, gotta love somebody calling out the "info-tainment" industry. Even though these shows are fun to watch, anytime you see one of these 'gung-ho' dudes taking silly risks the warning sirens should go off and disclaimer trailers should crawl the bottom of the screen. I hope somebody can get Cody back on the air, perhaps in some kind of show featuring his skillsets combined with a naturalist guest specializing in the unique flora and fauna of a specific region. I think lots more people would watch, not just the "survival" junkies.

Great article. I think Cody is really trying to be ethical in the passing of survival information to the public.
There has got to be a way to pass the info in an interesting/entertaining way and a responsible way.
He does not want to do foolish things in these shows that could get someone injured or killed if the mimic him.
Like when BG got stung all over getting a couple hundred calories of honey. Jackassery.

A very inteligent considered artical

Well worth the read to get his clearly stated philosophy od 'Survival'
And secondary is his insights to the TV world

Well worth reading his web page on
Choosing a Credible Survival Instructor: How to find the "real deal" in a trainer in whom you will trust your life.

What???? the show was scripted???....there goes the last hope for human kind.....

On a serious note, props to the shoe-less guy for calling it for what it is. I like the guy, even though he easily can fool some people with his hippie appearance.

Glad you guys liked the interview. The Master Woodsman site is my baby. We try to keep it real with skills and being a repository of outdoor living skills information. As I told Cody when we were discussing the possibility of doing the interview, MW is far from popular. While others were copy and pasting his FB posts and doing gear reviews (and getting lots of traffic), we were doing (boring) articles on natural insect repellents, huaraches, and an original article on why Survival TV Sucks.

Cody appreciated our grass roots approach. He had other opportunities to do interviews with internationally circulated magazines and popular news-like blogs, but he went with MW, even though he knew it wouldn't have the visibility. That too speaks to his integrity as far as I am concerned.

And even though we are not very popular, I will say this about the site (of which I am quite proud), we have a regular following of survival instructors and folks from places like here. I will take quality over quantity any day. Thanks, Chris

I enjoy Cody and all, but his ego just seems through the roof in this interview.

Pretty good article HERE too.

Thank you Codger, appreciate that greatly.

If you don't believe in yourself, who will? :)

Nice!

And I will add to that the guy is VERY passionate about what he does and I know a lot of folks mistake that for ego. And to paraphrase what Esav said, Lundin is a big proponent of the words "I AM" and what comes after them.

A snipit from his book, When All Hell Breaks Loose,

"The two most powerful works in the English language are the words "I AM." The use of the words "I AM" denote individualized being. Upon using these two words, you decree into your world anything that comes after them, whether positive or negative. When used, they draw forth and release more energy into your world to perform the act or thing you desire. Their power of creation happens regardless of your conscious use of the words. They don't even need to be physically spoken; thinking or feeling the words "I AM" will also have an effect in your life."

There is much more on "I AM" and other head candy in his book which I highly recommend.

The things he said would have actually meant something if he had said them BEFORE he was fired. It sounded to me like someone pissed off about being let go. He is also really proud of himself for knowing the difference between: Modern survival, primitive living skills, urban preparedness, homesteading, and wilderness living or “bushcrafting.” Congrats!

I have to admit that I did not like the show. Too much drama, didn't learn anything and I don't need useless info repeated to me over and over again.

I would rather watch one Ray Mears episode or Bush Tuckerman on repeat than the entire Dual Survivor/Nude Survivor saga. (would prolly learn more) lol

He did not invent "I AM".

But maybe "I AM" "going barefoot". I can't say anything I would be useless without shoes. But I have free roaming chickens and constantly being on the lookout for not stepping in poop would get old.

somewhere
my job it to present very technical information to people that do not know it
I interview very knowledgable people that have minimal ability to pass on to the wider audience

Lundin's interview and articals shows him to be a perceptive educated communicator

Oh god I laughed so hard! ..."which one could argue is the gene pool at work." And the following part about people watching Bear Grylls type believing it gave them skills shouldn't breed! Classic!
I have always enjoyed Les Stroud though. Haven't watched Dual Survival cuz I assumed it was more Bear Grylls stuntman extaordinaire bs. I will now though.

I went back and deleted\revised a comment in the Dual Survival thread after reading Lundin's interviews. It is easy for the low outdoor skilled, semi ignorant, peanut gallery attendees like myself to pass judgement.

I've got Cody's books which I like and enjoyed some of his contribution to the Dual Survival show although I quit watching after about 4-5 episodes. It wasn't hard to see beyond the facade of the realistic and genuine nature of the show although it was better than Grylls show and the Mike Hawk (say that fast in public restroom) show. I'd much rather watch Les Stroud and Ray Mears or a show with just Cody in it although it seems far fetched to think that he will get another opportunity given the Discovery relationship.

I may not subscribe to all of Cody Lundin's beliefs and practices (get some boots dammit!) but I respect his skills as a survival instructor and as a communicator. You can tell that he is pissed off about the show and the people behind it but it did introduce him to a lot of viewers that had never heard of him so hopefully he is thankful for that. Good interview, thanks for sharing.
