I might be going to luray craverns 2mrw and I was wondering if anyone here has been to it, its in VA please tell me if its worth waking up at 6 for

also PICS welcome

They are worth seeing, but not sure you will have to get up that early. I was on a biz trip over in that area and stopped on the way back to DC. It takes about 45-60 minutes to go thru. Maybe I hit them in the off season

Beautiful area of the valley and if you have never been in a cavern, it is a must see - very cool, even if you have seen others too.

The caverns are really, really cool. It's worth going to and who cares about getting up early - you can sleep all you want when you are dead :)

I've been to Luray a couple of times but won't be heading back till my son is old enough to appreciate them. There are quite a bit of good trails around there as well. you don't get to explor on your own, you have stick with the group tour.

Have fun

Not sure about Virginia, but the local caverns here (Laurel Caverns) is closed because of the bat white nose disease.

I don't recall seeing any bats in Luray Caverns or even hearing about them when I was there. The entrance to Luray Caverns is inside a building.

:thumbup:Luray Cavern is a dry cavern system that is worth doing the tour. Some very interesting facts about how it was found and developed for tourism. There is a great old car museum right next door. If you're looking for a place to stay in the area check out Gander Island cabins on-line. Very nice. We stayed for a week and did the caverns, a lot of hiking on the A.T/Skyline Dr. and an overnite canoe trip on the Shenandoah River which runs through the valley there. There are only two cabins owned by this farming family that have been there for generations. Within spitting distance of the river. There are also some neat caves on the farm. Also a lot of Civil War history in the valley.--KV

I would like to go, the brochures have always seemed neat. I want to take my little brother to a place I stopped by last year in MD, Crystal Grottoes caverns. Near Antietam.

I've been in Luray cavers a couple times and I thought it was worth the visits. I am a cave fan, though, so take that into account. ;)

Yeah, I think it's worth it. There are some amazing features. They also have an outdoor maze and an antique car museum. Do 'em all and take a drive on Skyline Drive too.

Definitely worth the visit - our family loved it. Just be sure to take a flashlight. The lights went off for a while when we were in the bowels of the caverns.
