Like the subject says, I've been lurking here for some time.
Saw my first Striders at the NY Show on 2 Nov and was mightily impressed. Please bear with me as I ask some "newbie" questions:
1. What do most of you use your Striders for?
2. Almost hate to ask this, but do any of you also own Busse's, and
how do the Striders compare to the Busses for hard use?
(I presently own a Steel Heart E)
Comfort in the hand, edge retention, ease of resharpening, etc.
3. Can I buy any Strider with either cord wrapped or G-10 handle?
Does the cord wrapping offer any advantages over G-10?
4. Pertaining to the GB and AR folders, do they only come in one size?
(unbelievably large)
5. How do the Buck/Strider collaborations compare to the GB and AR?
Also, what steel do they use? If ATS-34, is it heat treated by
Paul Bos?
6. Presently, my only quality folder is a Large Sebenza? How do the
Strider and Buck/Strider folders compare to it w/'respect to
overall fit and finish, and general utility of use?
Any other comments you can offer a Strider newbie will be greatly appreciated.

Hey Lenny!
Until the makers of these fine blades get time to answer your questions, I'll take a whack at them from the standpoint of a feller who has worked with them (the makers and the knives) in many hostile environments.

1) Most Strider knives are used in Military and Law Enforcement capacities. They are made with materials and workmanship which can stand up to the rigors of combat, rescue, and survival. Many other models are bought by serious outdoorsmen who want only the best cutlery to entrust their lives to in the great outdoors.

2) I personally do not own any Busses, and would rather not venture to compare them to Striders. Duane or Mick, being metallurgists, could answer this question much better than I.

3) Most models are available with cord or G10. The only exceptions are the EB series, which are available with only G10, and the "concealable" series (AD, DB, HT, and SA), which only come cord-wrapped. There may be a couple of other exceptions, but these are the main ones.
G10 is superior for durability, and is configured to be the perfect electrical insulator. Cord-wrapped handles are better for a sure grip, and can be unwrapped in an emergency for about 15 feet of usable cord.

4) Yes.

5) The BuckStrider series are made of the same materials as the AR and GB, but are a little smaller and not as robust. The only other difference you'll find is the B/S do not have a tigerstriped finish, and the grips are squared off on the edges, instead of chamfered like the AR/GB. My B/S's are ATS-34, but some may be available in BG-42. Ask Duane, Mick, or Steve for more details.

6) I'm not familiar with Sebenzas, so I won't touch this one. However, I can tell you that if you want the most durable knife in the world, your Strider will not let you down. You'll have the best of both worlds, between hardness and sharpenability. And the warranty is unconditional. Take a look at striderknives.com for more details.

(Duane and Mick, I hope I haven't stepped on any toes by stepping up to the plate here. Just wanted to help.)

i just sold my large sebenza to pay for a DB...the sebenza (kept my small) is great, but cannot stand up to the rigors of use a strider (fixed or folder) can. The sebenza may be a frame lock, but the liners on the AR/GB are still bigger (if I remember correctly)!
Hunt on the forums and pick up a new or used fixed blade-if you don't like it you'll have no probs getting rid of it! The buck/strider is a good place to start. If it is too big for ya, forget about an AR/GB.
I might recommend a MFS or a WP2 to start with-they won't break the bank.

cheers,
Derek

Well done H.A. Owens!
You give me wood!
It would have taken me twenty minutes to type what you wrote!
Sorry I missed your call today. Will make comms w/you tomorrow.

Thanks for the info guys.
Anybody know if there's a dealer in the northern NJ, NY, Eastern PA area where I can lay my grubby little hands on some of the Striders to try out?
How 'bout the Buck/Striders?
Thanks,
Lenny

Trust me-pick the one you like the best that you can find in stock from the several dealers online-if you end up hating it (doubt it) you will be able to sell it and get your money back. I handled my first striders at Blade Atlanta 01 and knew I had to have one...get the one you can find now, and that will hold you over while you wait for the one you really want. and the buck striders are a good place to start-the mini is a stout edc knife, and the larger one is stout as hell. Last I saw, KnifeBomber had some for sale...you might want to check them out.
if you want to go small your first time, I love the WP2 (and wish I had one) or the MFS might be ideal. If you want the larger "classics" look at the MT (if you don't like tantos) or the WB or BT.
you can't go wrong.
cheers,
Derek

I did it!
Ordered a small Buck/Strider Spearpoint in BG-42 from BadAss knives yesterday.
The wait is gonna kill me though.

Have no fear, Mike gets the goods out quick!

You should have it no time. I got my WB from him within 2 days from the time of order.

Good luck with the new knife!
