Roger brought Sam Lurquin, Belgium maker, to our attention earlier this year. Being very impressed with Sam's work, I contacted him and was happy to learn he could get an order started for me before year's end.

It has been a very pleasurable experience. Working through language differences, Sam has constructed a bowie I look forward to with great anticipation. Many e-mail exchanges and several images have been shared, plus I feel like I have also made a good friend in the process.

I am waiting for a good final picture to share, but the bowie is complete and here is a little work in progress report:

W1 steel with raised clip and clay hardened hamon. Single hilt guard and spacer will be W1 with some gun-blued accent. Blade length 10 1/4-inches (26.1 cm), width at raised clip 2 3/8th-inches (6.1 cm) and handle of gidgee wood will be 5 3/8ths-inches (13.8 cm).

Hope to have more to report soon. Plus, I would like to thank Roger for bringing Sam to our attention. I look forward to seeing more of his work in the future. He is truely committed to doing the best he can with each knife he constructs.

Off to a great start. Watching this come together will
be intresting.

I mentioned the language barrier (which actually worked out quiet well overall). Well, since receiving the images I posted (which were from a couple of weeks ago), Sam has been busting it to get some other orders finished by Christmas, and it seems no more progression photos were taken. He did send a final shot, not the best quailty, and I will include the final handle and guard design here. Then, I'll wait until its arrival to post more photos.

Sam sent 7 different handle designs he has used so he could get a feel for what I might like. This is his result. Not over-countoured, but with a nice swell. Anxious to see first-hand, in hand.

Looks great! I love the aggressive blade shape and the gidgee is just gorgeous.

Roger

PS - Do try to get a good pic by the 26th. ;)

Sam Lurquin is very talented. I have enjoying seeing his work on the CKCA.

This Blade reminds me of the Blade Forums Breast Cancer Bowie of several years ago.

Hope you have that one with you in St. Louis, Joe. I wanna coonfinger it and leave DNA all over it. :p:thumbup::D
