A man who was out walking in the Alps near Switzerland and Austria in Italy hurt his foot on a glacier at 3000 m altitude and couldn't walk from there. He ate what he brought with him, müsli and chocolate, and drank melting snow.

The place was a little remote, so nobody heard him shouting for help until the ninth day. Nights the temperature went below freezing. He survived because he rationed his available food and he had a really good sleeping bag.

He survived because he had shelter and water. And a bit later, enough of a signal that someone noticed him. The food didn't make a substantial difference for 9 days, except in his head. Fat has 3500 calories a pound in it. Ponder how many days you could live on the fat stores in your body.

I apologize if I sound harsh, I do not mean to belittle the man's survival. He was obviously somewhat prepared, and smart enough to stay put and wait. In my mind, and my preparations, the most important things in survival are shelter and water, in varying order depending on locale. Shortly after that comes signaling. These things can be accomplished in any number of manner, and may take different methods and different supplies depending on your location, but utter lack of these three will kill you.
