Hi all,

I was doing the "Sand Paper" thing today on one of my old Rusty Hatchet Heads. In this case, a small Hudson Bay Hatchet/Tomahawk Head.
After removing enough Rust, I could see markings as follows : M 1 1/4. That's all. I did a Google search using "small Hudson Bay Hatchet, M 1 1/4.
Much to my surprise, it took me to E-bay for a "different style Hatchet" but, it has the exact same markings! M 1 1/4. The E-bay Hatchet is made by Collins.

Might anyone know anything about the "M" mark ? I'm hoping it means something other than meaning Mexico. Regardless, it's a cute lil" Hudson Bay Hatchet/Tomahawk and I wonder
if it is indeed made by Collins.

Thanks for any help/information/insight.

I hear ya Phan. I am unable to post MY own pixs at this time. The photo in the link shows the exact same markings as found on my lil' Hudson Bay Hatchet Head.
I am making the leap of Faith that since the exact same Markings (M 1 1/4) is found on the COLLINS Hatchet in the provide link that my Hudson Bay is also a Collins Hatchet (me hopes).

The one in the photo from the original post had a label saying it was made in Lewistown Pa, which means it was made by Mann after they acquired Collins (1966-2003) according to Yesteryearstools. There have been discussions here about whether the M found on some Mann axes stands for Mexico or not.

The ebay-linked picture shows a 'flat slab' handle which is indicative of 1990s-2000s manufacture. There is an entire thread here devoted to "M" stamped heads and Mann and/or Mexico seem to be quite prominent.

Thanks Steve and 300,

Ummmm, very interesting. I used the photo from the link as an example to show how my "Hudson Bay" Hatchet is marked : M 1 1/4

Steve, the MANN connection seems a real possibility. Thank you for providing that information. 300Six, arrrrrr, I'll have to check to see if I still have the original
(albeit messed up) handle that this HB Hatchet head was attached. Time to check the Junk Pile!
