M-43 and a little chopping

I used my M-43 for the first time today and chopped some branches that were about 1 1/2" to 2" thick. I was just familiarizing myself with it and did not take full power chops. What a great job it did! I have some 3" plus limbs to chop and I will use the M-43 and do a review.

Looks like it was quite effective. Looks about 18" size? I like the full tang on that. For some reason I like to see the tang on a blade. I know they are tough but I like to see em.

Nice shots of the M-43. Looking forward to the review.

Thanks for sharing.

Wait till you use it on larger stuff, be real careful about full force swings on small stock.

I have never used khukuris for chopping so I am going through this slowly and carefully. I have a stump that
I place the branch on. You can see it in the picture. I kneel down and then I bring the khukuri down at an angle to the branch. If it goes through the branch in one stroke, the knife will go into the stump. The arc ends at the stump. Anyone see any safety hazard doing it this way?

I would just say that in my experience (although i have not cut myself -- yet--) with any of my Khukuri I did notice that when i was de-limbing a small tree that i had cut down in the back yard with a 20 inch Chirwa Ang Khola when making big strong strokes one must stay aware of toes and knee caps and such.

the longer and or heavier or both the easier it is to over swing. More than once did i notice that if i had not been paying close attention to the position of my legs and body and blade i could have easily been on my way to the hospital

When I as chopping the limbs off that tree that was laying down there were a couple times that the blade went right through the smaller branches and I could have easily tore my kneecap off or ripped into an ankle real good - just reminding myself here that body position in relation to blade is very important - weight plus speed = momentum

that may sound like a no brainer but when your working and getting sweaty and stuff its easy to over-swing -- i did not mean to imply that you all didn't already know that - just reminding myself as well - the momentum on some blades can be killer - no pun
