Well, there it is. About 17.5 overall length, 1/4 inch thick, blade width about 2.5. Steel bolster and buttcap.

If you want one sign up in the other thread.

Nice work, Terry.

hey uncle bill how much is this one gonna run and how close to the model can the kamis make it?

It's got the right lines.

What's puzzling me though is why the handle doesn't have the traditional rings. Are they meant to be left off or are the kamis supposed to have a free hand in putting the rings where they want?

This one will run about $145. If there's no rings on the handle that's the way the kamis will probably make it. They will come 98% to model.

:
Did the blade warp on you T-Bone or did you make it from plywood?:D

Rusty I think some of the old M-43's didn't have the rings IIRC.
Check out John's pix of some old ones.:D

John was that a M-43 that I got from you a while back?
I know it was a WW II model or am I mistaken about that as well?
You would think I could remember but like Uncle Bill the memory is getting spotty to say the least.:D

When people ask my name sometimes I have to look in my wallet and see what it says on the cards I carry.

Rusty,
The M43 I have here doesn't have the grooves on the handle. I copied it exactly in length, thickness and the handle.
Yvsa, I didn,t have any warping at all and I used red cedar instead of plywood. I can't wait to see what the kamis do with this.

I'm gonna wait and see if we can get a 1/4" thick khukuri out of BirGhorka and if we do then I will no doubt be a prime candidate for one of these beauties!!!!!!!:D

I really like the old thin ones I have handled as well as the old war horse I got from John Powell that I did some light testing with.
From past experience I know that thinner blades will take a lot more than what most people think, but you can't mistreat them like you can a regular H.I.Khukuri.
There's a lot more I would do with my favorite 18"AK that I wouldn't do with my YCS no matter the strength it may possess except in an emergency situation.
The bottom line is that they are all knives and should be respected as such.:D
It's just that we're used to khukuris that will stand up to anything and still cut well.
I don't know of any other knife on the market that can compare with an H.I.Khukuri.!!!!!!!:D

Red Cedar huh?
I may try that on my next one. It is definitly easier to carve!!!!:D

With or without the rings, is no matter. Without scales is even better to me. I'm going to replace them anyway, so if the rivets aren't in the way fine. If they are in the way, drill new rivet holes. Well, send me one with wood scales. Then later we'll see how Sanu does with forge engraving the thin stuff.

That's a model? Wow.
Most of the M43s I handle have some sort of version of the rings (4 or 5) cut into the grip. In some cases the tang is cut also. One of the best things about the M43 is the thickness of the blade which gives the knife a great 'feel'. It appears the fancier knives don't have the rings.
Here's a photo for reference.

Sign me up for one of the M-43's. I have one original (not as nice as any of JP's), and I'm confident the HI version will be a winner.

I've just signed on on the other thread.
Just a question, is it going to come with a military style frog?
Now I'm just waiting for Yvsa to finish his new bowie........
Ciao

Terry, That is a great model! I think I may want to save up for this one.

Paul

Many thanks once again, John, for great help and great pix. And you can send me the one on the right. The dust bunnies need more to play with.
