I brought out the M-43 and originallyintended to do a full test on it. Instead, the sun was going down and only used it to chop a 2X2 from home depot. It took 14 strokes before the thing actually broke from a blow.

The blows were delivered as I was squatting and using my left hand to hold one end of the wood. So, I could not use my legs. Additionally, I had used about half power swings.

I'm impressed with the cutting ease. The blade just showed actually nothing.

The 2 by 2 was on the ground with you holding one end? I seem to chop more than some of the people here who report sailing through various wooden objects with 2 or 4 hits. Takes me 16.
How much does your M43 weigh?

Tell us all about it when you get a chance to do a full work out.

Now you've got me wondering how many chops it will take.

The M43's shape really seems to polarize people. Have you ever heard someone say, "Those M43's? They're okay, I guess."

Mine seems to be a bit softer in the edge than what I'm used to but it came to me very sharp and I've kept it that way. It gets used.

"Mr. Owl, how many m43 chops does it take to get through the center of a 2x2?"
"Let's find out. One....AGHAH! Get a bandaid! Get a bandaid!! Oh God, where's my toe?!?"

The moral of the story is that owls don't have thumbs and should never chop anything with a khukuri.

Anyway, I really love my m43. 17" and perfectly shaped. Sher did a bang up job on it. I guess the question is a matter of half chops. I know that my m43 can go through pressure treated 2x2s in 5 or less chops at mid section height with full power chops. I know this because i had to make a door stop for my office door and haven't bought a saw yet.
I'm glad you like the m43. Dave is right. It's a love it or hate it kind of blade. Actually, i would consider it a level 2 or even a level 3 khuk (if there were such things). Usually not the best khuk to start off with as it is overly forward heavy (ie the sharp end just keeps on a goin') and lacks the safety of handle rings (ie twists in the hand with bad form). I'm really glad i got an M43, but i'm glad it was my 10th or so khuk and not my 1st.

With the rounded curve, the M43 conceivably can both push and pull as it cuts. Always wondered if in practise it does that any more than a regular khuk. With the Hanshee and it's sharper angle, you can really push pull as you chop.
