1. Anyone have experience with the BOC brand M-7s over the other brands?

1. Was concidering a M-7 conversion from bayonet to fighting knife. Has anyone does this? Should the hole be cut off or should the bayonet mounting be taken off and a regular handle put on?

Ive seen people convert these before. I spent 8 yrs in the AF, 6 months in Desert shield/storm. Ive seen many interesting things done with both the m7 and fighting utility. Most people usually cut the bayonet adapter on the crossguard off. some will take the lug adapter off also and make one out of a solid piece and pin it back on, re-peen the butt. the handles are all ready well suited for its intended use.

others have taken the f/u and cut the top of the crossguard off, and drilled a hole through the pommel for a lanyard.

You can grind the barrel ring off with a bench grinder in a hurry. By just grinding off the ring to the bottom of the ring, and rounding off what's left, it makes a short hilt. The whole thing resembles an M3 Trench Knife.

I've also modified a couple of Camillus f/u's. I sanded the handle sides down a bit so the handle had a slight oval shape, blacked the leather with shoe dye, drilled a thong hole in the buttcap (man is that thing hard!), and used a large norton stone to take the curve out of the top swedge (sharpened top edge near the point). Now that it's straight, it is easier to sharpen on a flat stone. I didn't grind off the top of the hilt, but it could be done.

Just a suggestion: If your going to convert the M7 you might want to consider keeping the existing hardware and just flipping it over. the mounting ring makes a decent guard, and if you mount it to a C7 the blade up configuration will make it easier to extract. As bonus the SGM wont notice the change at first.
