I'm thinking of getting a m.o.d. hornet. I have never been able to handle one because it is the only m.o.d. model that the knife dealers in my town have not had in stock. I've never even been able to find one at a gun show. I love James Keatings designs, the chinook is my all time favorite of all my knives. If you have a honet or have handled one please tell me about it.

it was a tossup between a hornet and a trident for my first edc
if you've used the trident, the hornet will feel stiff by comparison
using the thumbstub to open the knife, you'll find it feels harder to open cf the trident
probably because of the angle?
anyway, if you have very small hands (mine aren't big, by any stretch) the hornet may be good for you
i just don't like it

Check my testing and reviews of those knives at www.folders-r-us.org

I have had both and they are well made. The Hornet was a tad too small for me but it performed well like most MOD models.

The MOD Hornet has an oddly shaped handle. It didn’t feel right to me no matter how I gripped it. I think you should hold this knife in your hand before you buy it. That way you’ll know if it’s right for you.

My pro's: Thick blade, thick liner lock, built solid (feels that way.) My cons: Thumb studs stop the blade from opening too far (I like to remove the studs sometimes), lanyard "slot" should be a hole. I can't even run 3mm cord thru it (same on my Trident), Then there's the sheath.....what the hell is that? It must have been made in China.

The sheath is an afterthought. It [ the knife ]has a clip for your pocket and should be carried such except in times of strenuous activities where one may not want to lose it.

The sheath is there but meant as an alternative means of carry besides it's primary design of a clipped folder.

The sheath is acceptable as it isn't used and really wasn't designed to be used often. To my thinking, take off the clip if you want belt carry or find a different knife without the clip and a better sheath.

Thanks for all your help guys. I just found a really good deal on a hornet so I think i'll pick one up.

I had a Hornet, briefly, but got rid of it. Fit and finish were fine, but I found it to be too small and uncomfortable in my hand. It was yet another lesson on how important it can be to actually handle a knife before you buy it.

Thanks again for all your help guys. I've been getting a lot of info on the hornet. And I got an offer I can't pass up so I'm going to pick one up.
