looking at this knife, any input from someone that owns or has handled one.
i.e. would you recommend one?? (just looking to own, not to use in a tactial sense) thanks in advance. wwells20

I just got one a month or so ago on closeout. At the $90 I paid, it is a great knife. The lock-up is great and there is no blade play. The quality seems to me to be outstanding. The shape of the handle fits my hand perfectly - it provides an extremely secure and very comfortable grip (to me at least). It rides comfortably in the front pocket of my jeans. The blade is somewhat thick, so it is not the best slicer in the world, but it still cuts very well. I sort of don't like the logo and all the writing on the blade and I don't like the blood groove/fuller on it for aesthetic reasons. But other than the aesthetic aspects, I am very impressed with the knife and have no regrets.

Victorinox in West Hartford, Connecticut still had a serrated edged one for the $90 closeout price as of a week ago. I think another member here called them and they did mail order.

It is a stout little knife. Sorta reminds me of a bulldog with the thicker blade and thick liner. Fit and finish on the ones I've had were good with everything in place just like I want it. The only problem I have with these knives is the placement of the pocket clip. I much prefer it to be at the very end for deep pocket carry. If they were so clipped an automatic Trident would become an edc for me.

thanks guys.
AlonzoMosely, that's a good price! i'll check on the place you suggested. my local shop wants 149.00 (will stay away from that) but i'll check around.

Artsig1, i agree. i lke the clip placed for low-ride. i'm not going to be unreasonable, but i'll handle the thing and see if i like it.(one good thing about a local shop)

*MSRP is 190.00, sounds like MOD is on the overpriced list. thanks

I have two Tempests I bought from the store in Conn. for 90 bucks apiece. It is the only knife I have ever bought 2 of at the same time. I sent them both back to MOD. One for a new blade. The first one was a pse and I wanted it changed to pe. The second one had a defective liner lock. Rec. them both back in one weeks time better than new. Scary sharp and rock solid liner lock on both. Ergo's are excellant and they aren't so big as to scare people. One of them is my edc and the other I am saving.

Great service and at the price point these are hard to beat. They don't flip open as easily as some I have but then again they don't need to. The blade pivot is smooth but since both screws are rounded it is a pain to try and take them apart to work on. Not that I would do that mind you! They are stout thick knives that are just plain strong with great ergo's at least for me and they are classy as in well built with precision. Not thrilled about all the writing on the blades either but what are gonna do. keepem sharp

guess i'm gonna have to try to get me one! this will be the last one for a while, i swear, really, i mean it, really, honest!! ;)

Wwells20, Send me an e-mail and I'll tell you where to get the best price. I really love my hornet. The only thing that it needs is a round lanyard hole and not a "lanyard slot". Not a big issue though. ;)

It cost me 25 bucks for the black coated blade in pe, along with 6 bucks shipping. Worth it in my opinion. Keepem sharp

I carried one of these for about a year, The steel is great, they handle very well. The actions are kind of stiff compared to other manufacturers. The point that really killed it for me though is that the lock does not hold up to shock...the lightest rap on a table top causes the lock to fail. :grumpy:

Lobo, please explain - are you saying that you did what I think is called a spine whack test and without much of a whacking the lock failed??? My lock seems great - very thick liner lock and makes a great heavy snapping sound when locking open, but I have not tried whacking it - I had assumed that with that size liner and the seemingly tight tolerances that it was a good lock - should I try a spine whack?
