whats it called? and what do you use to tighten it?

Thanks

I guess it is just a bolt they make for their knives. Some do it as a trademark and provide an specific wrench to tighten/loosen them. Some brands make them that way so they CAN NOT be manipulated by anyone else but them. Some pivot screws are locked with locktite once they are propertly tightened. A visible screw head doesn't always mean they are there to be manipulated.

Most likely, knowing MTech's business tactics, that knife is a copy of a real knife, and if so, it's very possible that they copied the pivot screw right from the original, though I can't identify what knife or maker the knife might be a copy of.

That style of bolt head is a variation of a slotted spanner head (second row from the bottom, far right)...

...and you would use a "spanner key" (somewhat similar to this one) to tighten it...

Hi,

Yeap, nothing is "custom" there. I have a Sheffield folder similar to that. It has the same bolts. You can buy them from McMaster-Carr.

I had a KaBar Series 7, with the same bolt, that I gave away to a friend, because it got loose. He eventually made a tool to fix it.

thx - cpr

in my local blade shop ive seen a few m-tech knives that come with the tool to tighten that screw head. from what ive seen its only select models though.

Years ago, a friend of mine bought one of those 200 knife packages from the Knifechannel (or whatever it's called). Many of those cheap knives also came with an equally cheap "spanner key" to tighten the pivots, which inevitably came loose again in no time...

It's true. The ones I had came with a fitted key. They do come loose and need a little Lock-Tite to make them permanently tight. You can also use some surgical tweezers (with extensions) to not only tighten the pivot bolt, but to unscrew/screw flashlight clicky assemblies.
