I noticed a few M-Tech knives at the local gun/knife show this afternoon and decided to pick one up. These are actually copies of BOSS knives, something I didn't know at the time. I thought that these were the real designs and not copies. (I couldn't remeber that the company making the real ones was BOSS.)

Anyway, I bought the "Grunt" copy for $10.00. My main reason for buying a cheap knife (something I never do) was to have a knife to really abuse or lend out.

The knife is made out of G-10 and "440" steel...probably 440A. Fit and finish is very nice. The knife passes the spine wack test and everything is flush. I sharpened it a bit and it seems to take an edge easily...I have not tested it so, I don't know how long it will hold it. The only problems I could find were that the screws for the pocket clip were loose and that the thumb stud needed tightening. Otherwise, the knife appears to be a good deal at $10.00. I would estimate the quality to be near CRKT's. This knife is more than adequate for a beater.

The design of the knife is very well thought out. The handle is comfortable and I like the reverse tanto blade shape. If this knife were made by a legit knife company like Spyderco or Benchmade using better materials, I would certainly buy one. I really like the design, it is one of the coolest looking folders that I have seen.

Since I found out that these were knockoffs of the BOSS line, I won't be buying anymore. This goes to show that even knife guys can get tricked by clones. However, I will say that for $10.00, M-Tech has built a decent knife. If these guys would come up with their own designs and maybe have a better blade steel, these knives would be a good value.
