M-tech, Tac-force, etc...How good are they?

At 10-15$ each, and often times less, I couldn't stop myself from picking up a few of these folders. I'm sure if I tried I could break them, but I usually reserve more heavy duty tasks for fixed blades, so I don't mind if my folding knife can't serve as a pry bar. My question is, how good are these knives really?

As a teenager, I guess this post is for me- a bunch of my friends have one or a few Tac-Force or MTech knives- and I don't know how many others I talked out buying them. They are basically crap folders that look nice- none of those knives hold an edge and hell, they list their steel at "stainless steel" -not a good thing in today's marketplace where there is an abundance of lower end, but high value steels (8cr13MoV, 420HC, 440C, etc). Fit and finish is consistently off, no edge holding, cheesy styling, and made in China. I don't like them and if you have experience with quality knives you won't either.

In honesty they are very poorly made and designed knives. Instead of picking up a couple of those, why not get one Spyderco tenacious of a kershaw blur/skyline, or an Ontario rat 1?

They fall into the category of what I have heard referred to as "throw-down" knives.

They are not something I would ever use for any kind of utility task, but I do own one Tac-Force Stiletto which is very solid compared to a lot of the other offerings from such companies whether people care to believe so or not, it would only be used for one purpose and one purpose only but hopefully and probably never will be.

This comes up a lot and I can't understand why people that know better buy this stuff.
Reminds me of the dickhead on You Tube who only buys clones......because he would NEVER pay $500 for a knife. He has about 30 clones......really?? Could've bought a few real knives instead.
Don't waste your money on that shit.

Some would have more then have better.

I got a Tac-Force Speedster 9" Stiletto/Milano. The Speedster models AFAIK use 440A. I use mine for really light stuff if at all, but I also got it for $4.35 shipped and understand the limitations. The liners and liner lock are aluminum I think. I like it for what it is. Easy to dull, easy to sharpen. Not worth the $15 retail you see at the gas station counter. For $10 go with Sanrenmu!

I wouldn't trust those knives one bit, but they are fun to break. Overall there are better knives for the same money like the aforementioned Sanrenmus, Opinels, Kershaws, even that $3 Walmart Ozark Trail knife.

I hear ya. I have a Frost Cutlery fixed blade for such a purpose in my vehicle's center console.

I bought an M-Tech "tactical" folder a few years back, before I really knew my way around folding knives, and thought it was great . . . at first. After a minimum of light use, the blade started scraping the liner, and the screws stripped when I attempted to remove them. Then the liner lock shifted to what I consider "101%" lockup (failed) and into the trash it went. I still have another M-Tech folder (different model) for use around the house, and a couple of their fixed blades, one being a "Survival Machete" that my wife bought me with the best of intentions. My concern with these is that there could be any number of serious flaws under that thick black coating. Plus, they can't even decide what steel to claim they actually use: the aforementioned "Survival Machete" has the usual blade billboard, one side stating 440C and the other stating 8Cr13MoV. The latter is more believable, of course.

Knowing what I do now, I would never part with a single cent toward the purchase of an M-Tech, and feel the same about TacForce based on what I've seen of their knives.

No, for $10 go with Opinel.

Yah or an Opinel! Depends on style I guess but Opinel is a clear winner on blade steel. I love my SRM 7010 & 7071 tho and for $10 are fantastic modern knives IMO. I wish we could get thinner handles for the Opinel blades tho that would be sweet!

They are the knife equivalent of a condom from the gas station bathroom coin operated machine. Do you really trust it?

Nothing a bit of sandpaper and BLO can't fix.
Make it yours.
