M1 Garand parts in a can

Why are you ruining Garand parts?
Just get some 4140 steel.
Because they were given to me to do this with. Not a great story that I'm aware of.

Incidentally I assumed 4140 or similar, so I went with 1095 powder. If I layer it enough there should be enough carbon movement for hardening. If it doesn't work right, I'll clad it over a core.

Ah, too bad no special provenence like the knife with the ship iron. Still cool.

This one maybe will be proof of concept, so if I got some parts with a story, I would know how to not screw them up :)

A friend of mine did this with a section of shot out, GAU-17 (6 barrel electric gatling) barrel from one of our Riverine craft. Turned out cool. was a retirement gift for one of our guys who started as an aft gunner, moved up the ladder to Boat Captain.

Once upon a time I was pretty active with a local CMP group. I was told by one of their armorers that M1 bolts were made from case hardened 8620.
