So I just got a CRKT M1 Lightfoot. I'll give my thoughts after get my answer to this question.

Is the grind on the M1 supposed to be some kind of asymmetrical psydo-chisel grind or did I get a improperly 1/2 ground blade?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers

CRKT's - M1's are very commonly found to be factory ground like yours is. I have had one for awhile now and it came the same way. It was razor sharp out of the box and still is today. Even though I sharpened it to an even grind, long ago. It's a inexpensive Bulldog of a knife! Love the flipper too.

Bulldog is right! I too am digging the flipper, in the little bit of playing with it I have done I find opening it with the flipper to be superior to using the thumb-stud.

But, the question is is this the proper grind that it is supposed to come with or should I send it back. I know I could easily reprofile it myself but I just have this thing about holding people to their product and if I pay for something I want to come the way its supposed to.

It is a high-hollow grind on one side and seems to be flat on the other.

In short it is, as GarageBoy said, a millenium grind.

got mine as a present, when they came out a few years ago! good ergos, but the blade gets duller than a sock after 1 day of light use!
i can't get it very sharp also, and i'm used to handsharpen my emersons ..
this knife is just being left in the drawer for years now. don't like it.
the blade is off -center when closed and hits the liner ..
one of my least favorite knives.

I enjoyed mine for some time. The handle shape and flipper work well, and I liked the gunner grip style dimples. The FRN was a little thick to carry in the front pocket. I used it a lot at an auto parts house, it saw a lot of hose, double corrugated cardboard, etc., and kept a good edge - for AUS8. It's not S30V.

The semi tanto point is ok, and I got used to it quickly. As for looks, tho, something was lost in translation to CRKT and the blade got smaller in relation to the handle, compared to photos of Lightfoots originals. Again, perhaps its the thick FRN scales. The TiN on my blade resists scratching very well and has very few markings - it looks much better than the coated blade of my old BM CQC7.

I acquired a Buck Strider next, and the performance difference was close, the Buck in 420H and a high hollow grind cutting about equal on the same materials. The CRKT had more comfortable ergos for a bare hand EDC, and a less aggressive appearance to me - but has been the only knife I've gotten a negative comment on in public. Perhaps again the thick FRN scales make it more visible. I sanded the scales on the Buck (most effective diamond checkered rasp I've ever owned,) maybe I should thin them on the CRKT (from the back.)

It's hard to rotate it into my EDC, right now I'm stuck on carrying an much more expensive folder that is heads and shoulders better, a S30V titanium framelock. But when I need really dirty work to do, the M1 does come to mind as a good alternative.
