M1 or HEST 2.0?

Looking into a solid, comfortable, heavy/hard use edc folder to carry when I can't carry a fixed for whatever reason. I like the look of the combative edge m1 and the HEST 2.0, Which do you prefer and why. Should I steer clear or one or the other? I know the HEST 1.0 had its issues but I hear they are resolved, and I've seen some people had problems with the m1.

Not all the HEST 1 issues were resolved from what I hear, and even if they stepped up the quality, you still have a fundamentally flawed design by someone who knows nothing about knives and is arguably the biggest douchebag in the industry. I'd go with the M1 if it was me.

Hmm I know nothing about the designer. Please elaborate. Im intrigued...

Robert Young Pendleton, had his own forum here. Check it out in the Archives... In a way, he kinda rode in after ESEE released the HEST fixed blade, talked big, insulted some, then blamed Bladeforums for his troubles.

At the time, he had quite a following, some even got tattoos of the DPX skull for contests IIRC.

One of the main reasons he's disliked here is that he made a habit of abusing his powers as a mod, often deleting posts or punishing people for complaining about the quality of his knives. The straw that broke the camel's back was him posting the personal and work information of a member here (and his wife), presumably as some kind of threat for arguing with him. You can check the archives for the full range of things he did to garner the dislike he's received here.

Aside from that, he's made a career on criticizing troops that let him tag along with them, and generally being so unbearably annoying that he often gets abandoned in the middle of nowhere. Then he boasts about how he was the last man standing.

Sounds like a douche that I don't want to buy from. So anything like the m1 that y'all can recommend?

Yeah, the M1 :D

Its awesome in every way, BUT I find it a little uncomfortable in hand. Everything else is spot on.

Just got the Hest 2.0 It's pretty damn nice for the price. No complaints yet. Haven't heard any rave reviews of the M1.

Been toting the HEST 2.0 for about a month now with absolutely no issues whatsoever. Between the HEST, my SNG and my Hogue not much else gets any pocket time. The HEST sees the bulk of the carry time due to the fact that it fits my hand better and the wave / bottle opener feature make for a quicker deployment (but that's just my preference / ability) if you can get both of them I recommend you do that and sell off the one you don't care for.
They're both in demand so selling either one you shouldn't take too much of a hit.

Best of luck and happy hunting....

if you like the M1 maybe take a look at the SR11? similar construction just a different design.

I have a Combative Edge M1. I highly recommend it. Construction quality is superb, design is spot on (for me) and I love the looks. Blade sharpens up nicely and the DLC on the blade is the best I've seen (compared to Benchmade, Strider or Becker coatings).

Get the M1...you'll love it.

I have an M1 that is my EDC. The flipper works great, it is super sharp, blade is centered, no problems at all. Very happy with it.

You should check out the ZT 0300, it's a beast of a knife. As for the others I have not had a chance to own or hold them but I do have the hest fixed blade and i'm not to sure how many other people would agree with me but I love the design. RYP sucks yeah but i haven't been able to hurt the fixed yet after two years of abuse. (I'll thank esee for that :D)

I don't know much about RYP, but I do know that my DPX Hest/F 2.0 is a very solid knife, I have been carrying it, and I have had no problems at all with it. It locks up solid, came very sharp, and their customer service is excellent. I sent in my 1.0 and they sent me a 2.0 that had some flaws, and they had me send that one for a replacement, and got a free T-shirt too. They responded to my emails very fast, and sent out the replacements very fast also. I like my Hest/F 2.0, I've never owned an M1 but I hear they are also very solid knives.

I have both of these the hest can take a lot more abuse but the m1 has more reach so it depends exactly what you want, the hest is actually a pretty small knife
