Does anyone know what the backspacer of the M16 CF is made of? I think it's made of CF as well but I'm not sure.

Also I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with the CF chipping off. My buddy had one and he dropped it. There was a small piece of CF that chipped off the top of the tang. After this it just seemed to get worse worse under normal use...just about withered away on him. Is this the nature of CF once it has been chipped?? or is this a warranty item?

Is this possibly one of the reasons why the CF M16 sells much less than any of the other M16's? (here in BC, Canada anyway)

Love the knife but now I'm almost scared to carry it

First of all, Welcome to BFC
Don't know about the backspacer, but Carbon Fiber tends to be brittle and could break.
You can always try to phone up CRKT and see if they're oing to warrantee the item. They're pretty nice with the policies... as long as you don't abuse it (ie use it as a pry bar)
BTW where in BC

the spacer on my M16-00 looks to be CF, havent hjad ant chipping probs w/mine and have had about a yr, if ya send it to CRKT i bet they would replace, and imho ya dont see as many CF M16's as the others cuz they cost so darned much more,

BOK, I have not seen low prices on the large CF version. The large carbon fiber tanto M16-14CF sells for over $100. It has the better aus 118 steel.

BOK, do you have pictures of the damage so we can see what you are taking about.

sorry no pics...that knife actually got warrantied...not for the CF though...it was for the liner lock failing on him...

His particular one may have just been a dud...CF scales and all...

I just hope the CF on mine is tougher than his...
(I have the small spearpoint version)

I have had good luck with my M16-14CF (not that it see's any use :) my regular M16-14 takes good abuse though).

I think I did ok last year getting the CF for $110.

Hopefully your friends WAS just a dud.... (Man I LOVE this site)

As this is my first post I thought I would keep it simple.
The back spacer on my M16 carbon is metal, I presume Aluminium.
You can tell if you touch it to your lip when it is cold.It feels
much colder than the carbon.
Mine cost 74 pounds sterling for the smallest
(the only one legal to carry without a good reason in England)
I bought it for its weight, doesn't stress
my suit pocket like my old kershaw does.
