So,I'm going to buy a CRKT M16-04 but I have some questions.
1.I went to the local knife dealer, but he has just one M16-04.It's a plain edge model(that is good for me),but the handles are green. Is this the Zytel model,or the normal?
2.Does the M16-04Z say on the blade that he is a Zytel model,or no?
3.Is the lock strong enough to use as a harder EDC?
My friend had a same knife earlier, that he bought as a M16-04Z,but if a look at the pictures on the homepage,I see that zytels are blacks. Now,what is the true?

Thanks for your kindness and sorry for my bad english..

I think any model number ending with Z is zytel.

As far as I know the M16 series comes in several sizes as well as a couple of different blade styles. The handles come in different colors both aluminum and zytel ( and I think a couple in G10 too). You can probably go to CRKT's web-site to view all of them.

Zytel can be a color other than black.

I have an aluminum handled M16, the model # is M16 -14M an it is stamped on the blade. The handle is supposed to be OD , but to me it has a gray hue to it , but you can tell it's aluminum when you hold it.

The "14s" are pretty big, I bought mine sight unseen , if I had to buy it over again I'd get the one of the M16 13's..

So if it's a Zytel model,is it written on the blade?M16-04Z?On the homepage there is no M16(no zytel) with plain blade.

If you look closely you'll see that the zytel models have a steel liner inside both handles. The aluminium models only have a steel liner on one side that forms the liner lock.

And don't forget that the zytel models have AUS 6 and AUS 4 blades. Rather pay a bit more and get an aluminium model at least you'll have an AUS 8A blade.

Before getting my Mini Grip I had used to EDC the M16-13LE; AUS 8A spear point blade, aluminium handles and black Ti-Ni coating on the blade. I still love it. Its nice and slim, rides well in my pocket. Very strong knife, survived some abuse and a few hard spine whacks, so don't worry about the lock - I have never had to rely on the LAWKS system yet. And the Ti-Ni coating does not have a single scratch on it yet. The only small drawback is the combo plain and serrated edge. But its not a major problem. Those serrations have come in handy a few times. Don't be afraid to use them, once you wear down those VERY agressive points the serrations just seem to work a bit better.

At the end of the day...a GREAT knife for the money

Yes, it will have the model number with the Z on the blade. at least mine does. i got it maybe 3 years ago.

unfortunately, it look as if the regular M16 are no longer available as plain edge, but the M16-EDC is still available as plain edge.

The "Z" in the model number is a giveaway,
but with that said, I do NOT like zytel, but I have an older one of these with it, but it still is a good (i.e. decent) knife.
