Hi folks,

We have in our possession a Model 1902 Cavalry Saber. I'm pretty sure the handle is plastic, and the blade is VERY bright. I've seen information that indicates that the Ames swords had plastic handles, but this particular example has no maker's marks anywhere I can find. Etched on the ricasso is this "U of M" on both sides and the number 15 beneath one of these. Did Ames make any of these swords and NOT put maker's marks on them? Would they have omitted them at the request of the purchaser? Any information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated as always. Thank you all in advance!

Welcome aboard. Without a picture, it is hard to say you are not discussing the M1902 sword for all officers. This is more properly regarded as an infantry sword but sometimes used by 20th century cavalry officers.

Are we writing here about the M1902 with a grooved finger grip?
