Do any makers use M2 (High Speed Steel)?

I'm thinking of making a few Scandi type/ hunting knives from this material.

Anyone had any experience with how this steel cuts, edge holding, how is it to work with, etc? Comparisons to other tool steels, such as D2 and O1? Is it worth the extra cost?

Any info would be really appreciated!

Have not used m2 but have done a few in cpm m4 cm and its great hard to work but the results are over the top.

I've made a lot of knives from it. Easy to work when annealed... a bear when hardened. Do most all your work prior to heat treating and have it heat treated by an experienced, professional firm. I have mine tempered back to RC63-64. It's not a good steel for long knives or knives subjected to high impact or lateral stressing. It is very fine grained and cut and cuts and cuts...

Second for CPM M4. I used this steel once and it impressed me to no end. I didnt have it long but if the reports on toughness and it winning cutting comps are true then its one hell of a steel. M4 can be ground very thin before the final bevel is put on as well. I heard from the maker it ate belts like no tommarow though, like Spencer said.

Wait!!!! does this mean I can get a SAR in CPM M4 now?!?!?!

Usually the biggest problem with HSS steels is finding the steel in plate or bar stock in sizes suitable for stock removal blades.
