I'd like any comments on the virtues of either the M23 Gamemaster versus the M5 for general camp and trail use. I would probably choose the leather handle on both as I find it most comfortable. I am particularly curious about the effectivness of top edge on the M23 for heavy cutting or hacking. I would include dressing and skinning in the uses. TIA

Well basalt, you didn't get much of a response so I'll jump in. I owned 2 #5 and one #23. IMHO it really is your choice, they're both good field knives. The model 5 comes with a variety of blade lengths. The #23 is one choice in the blade, so do you want a sharp top edge????
How about a model one vs a model 5 no diff except for the top edge. Or a model 8 or model 19 or will a model 23 be better.
Do you see? They are all good for the field or what ever. That is why when you buy one you want another a bit different, then wammo, you are a collector!!!!!!
All the best,
Sam:D

The model 19....I think it is one of the significantly underrated Randalls....

They're great woods knifes as they come from the factory....but I've got some with double hilts....no thumb notches...and they are magically turned into a short, sturdy and stout little fighter.....

But as the prior missive said....buy two and "voila"...then you're a collector....:D
