m390 for under $100? (Kershaw Link)

I checked the "paid dealers" list to make sure I could mention where I saw them, knifecenter.

A Kershaw with SpeedSafe? I will pass. Both my ZT 0566 and Cryo II have had multiple spring failures and this is the reason I will never buy another SpeedSafe POS.

Multiple spring failures? Wow, some folks have all the luck. I've never experienced a SpeedSafe failure, but if I did, Kershaw would fix it up.

Pretty good price for what you are getting, IMHO.

If it was in a Chive or a Leek platform I would be all over this. Especially if it was one of those fancy orange Leeks!

There was another thread about them. Already received mine. Even though I've got the S35VN exclusives, couldn't pass this one up and it was a little cheaper than the S35VN knife.

I wonder if this m390 model has a detent ball, unlike the HOB exclusive ones in s35vn, but like the budget models in 420HC. Anyone hear or know anything?

I hate to beat a dead horse but I have to agree on this. For some reason I've had several of my speed assist Kershaw springs break lately. I have one due any day for my Dividend right now. I've only opened it approximately four or five hundred times and it just broke. I don't know if the quality of the spring material has been downgraded or I'm just having bad luck. But it really makes me hesitate on buying anymore Kershaw assisted knives. I have a Buck Tempest that's been opened and closed several thousands of times over the past ten years that I've owned it and it has never broke a spring. I'm a little disappointed with my Speed Safes for sure.

I've seen 3 of these now. On all three, there IS a detent ball in the lock bar, but there is NOT a hole in the m390 blade for the detent ball to fall into once in the fully closed position.

Won't be easily de-assisting the m390 version of the Link if that's what you were thinking to do. Unless you want to try and drill your own hole, but that's likly to be a massive PITA without the proper tools for cutting hardened steel. HTH.

pretty inexpensive for m390 steel. think my benchmade valet was 150ish. to be honest sharpening m390 has been illusive and a real PIA for me, just can't get the last 20%. this stuff is real hard, not sure if some of these super-steels are worth it for me.
