I just got to unbox the newest addition to my HTM family, and wanted to share the moment with you all. Please forgive the crappy pics; I had to borrow a nice camera to get this knife, and I don't have that camera right now...
First, the pic that won me this knife:
I gave the copper-handled Gunny the duty of opening up the box. Hmm, what have we here?
I do believe that's an HTM box...
I love that HTM knives come in a classy cushioned pouch. Good for storing the knife I'm NOT going to carry today.
Here's what's inside:
I noticed a number of changes rather immediately between the ones I already have, outside of the pivot pin. First, there's a good bit more jimping on the spine of the knife, although this one's a bowie, and my previous ones were torpedo and radian.
Additionally, the texturing on the lock now goes all the way across, rather than only halfway. I'm not sure yet which I prefer.
Oooohhh, pretty:
The opposite side of the blade from the HTM DDR engraving says M390.
The pocket clip mounting is a bit different. It's now actually got an inset machined in, and can go tip-up or down. I wouldn't mind having one of those little star wrenches get included with a DDR knife, since it's a fairly specialized tool, and I now have to go dig mine out so I can remove the clip, since I don't really like clips, or tip-down, for that matter. I'm picky, I know. I also noticed that the deployment doesn't feel quite as snappy as on my other two, perhaps because it needs to be broken in some. The other two usually get dropped by someone who's opening them for the first time, because they snap so hard they jump right out of the hand if you aren't expecting it. I'm pretty sure this one will as well. Probably best that I don't let people open them over anything except for something soft, and I do warn them in advance. The warning doesn't always make the knife stay in hand.
And, a couple family photos:
As usual, it came hair-popping sharp, even though it's got a lower grind than the torpedo. Since I now have one of each type, I can decide which my favorite is
