Got a Mini Ritter Grip yesterday, the factory edge was sharp, but pretty course.
Question is, can I use a more polished edge? I like a less "toothy" edge. Is this ok with this steel? How hard is it to sharpen?
I usually use a Sharpmaker to maintain and Edge Pro IF I need to reprofile.

In my experience these highly wear resistant steels tend to prefer the coarser grits resulting in toothier edges. I also have the sharpmaker and have used it on my m390 contego with the ultra fines. It was not a problem unless the stones are dirty. They need to be cleanish to cut rather than polish.

M390 can take a good polished edge. Go for it. I maintain on the Sharpmaker fine. I dont have anything in Benchmade M390 only customs. Its a good steel.

I have a BM AFCK and a BM MPR in M390 and I can guarantee its good to go for polished or toothy edges. My Spyderco Military in M390 has an incredible polished edge and I believe it to be unstoppable.

I've got a 710–1401 that came with a toothy edge and I am just maintaining it with sharpmakers fine and ultra fines. I am unsure of purpose and intent but this blades m390 comes with very fine lines throughout running from the spine to the bevel. D2 has been my favorite knife steel for many years but I gotta say this surgical steel is amazing stuff, as amazing as D2. The tooth is smoothing out over time and my goal as a new sharpmaker user is to keep the back-bevel equidistant throughout the length of the edge. So far so good. I had enough confidence in BMs m390 that I added a 40° apex to see if that would increase service time between sharpenings. We will see...

Thanks, great news.
I've started working on mine, got a really good feeling about M390.
