There’s a thread running in the General Knife Discussion forum asking for everybody’s “Top 3 Steels”. I tallied up the votes earlier today and (in round numbers, because I may have not tallied the votes with 100% accuracy and there may be a couple more votes in since my count) M390 had about 2x the number of votes of the second most popular steel.

Just a thought that may have been voiced before, but... I think a Military and a Paramilitary 2 done in M390 with CF scales would be a pair of over-the-top winners that Spyderco couldn’t produce fast enough to keep up with the demand.

General is full of fickle nerds. They're obsession with curtain steels is damn annoying on the Exchange. PM2 in M390 can go for $400+. However a Military in nearly identical CTS 204P stays in stock for nearly 2 years.

LOL! We can't have that. I am VERY happy with my 20cv YO2. I need to score one of the 20cv pm2's. (Though I still want a red G-10, M390 pm2)

Like said before.
CTS-204P, CPM 20CV and M390 are the same thing.

However i would love to see a production PM2 with one of those steels and CF or TI scales.

The M380 CF military is a beautiful thing. Think they have become quite rare now. Have not seen many around. For me that was one of the last sprints that truly tickled my fancy.

I've had an M390 Spyderco C-36 Military model as my main EDC for a little over 2 years now and I have no intention on replacing it as my main EDC anytime soon. It's been an awesome every day carry, general use folder and the Military is such a great all purpose folder as it is but with M390 blade steel has made it twice as good as an S30V unit IMO.

There is something really special about M390 blade steel and Lord knows I've owned a lot of Spyderco folders and fixed blades with several types of blade steel and it's going to take something really special for me to want to put my M390 Military into retirement. I would love to try a fixed blade with M390 or one with 20V.

I always list M390 above 20CV and 204p just because it's what I have the most experience with/knives in. I actually never owned anything 204p before. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a knife in that steel, but for some weird reason I have a shite ton of M390 knives, haha. I think it's more well known, which in turn means it is more widely used than it's American counterparts.

The 204p Military is my second favorite. I love the S90V CF/TI more. Mostly because I like the steel but the handle combos and the steel all together appeals to me more. That being said, the 204p Military has been fantastic. The steel takes a legit edge, sharpens easily and I havent had any chipping of any type. The worst damage it has seen is minor rolling or flattening which was fixed with only a handful of passes on the medium and fine spyderco sharpmaker stones.

The M390 CF Millie exsists already!
Who has one? What vendor has one in stock? My current EDC which is an M390 Military has the more conventional G-10 handle which is fine and I do like G-10>> but boy would I love an M390 Military with a Carbon Fiber handle. Unless the price is way up in the stratosphere.

Haven't yet gotten one of the 204P Military models and I've heard that there are a couple of well known dealers that still have them in stock. But I would take a CF, M390 unit over that any day.

For what tasks? It's not a particularly tough steel. I would assume those who use it temper it down to a lower hrc.
I'm just a bit puzzled??? I really don't understand what you're saying?? I've had such great luck with my M390 Military that I find it almost not necessary to even check out anything else at this time. The edge retention is great and I've found it to really hold up doing extremely rough cutting jobs. I don't know what else I can ask for?? It is notably better than my XHP Military which I've always thought to be above average.

But in all fairness we all do have different preferences and there's nothing wrong with that. But like I said before it's going to take one helluva blade steel on a C-36 Military to get me to consider changing.

CF/M390 Millie was a KW exclusive and are long gone. I don't think the Military ever came in a g10/M390 combo. You can find the CF/M390 on the secondary market here for around $250. The 204p Military was only available through KW as well, but they have been sold out for weeks now. Good luck in your search.
