Given the mixed feedback here on BF, I first popped open a can of Jack & Coke and only afterwards I have opened the Spyderco red & black box... :D

some comments related to things that I have seen mentioned in other threads, in no particular order:
- no gritty action on my example; a bit rough, yes, but no gritty
- small blemish on the choil jimping: yes, but I don't have issues with that as long as it doesn't affect functionality (it doesn't)
- substandard sharpening: well, substandard as opposed to my S90V Military and Barong, but on par with other Spydercos I own
- the steel insert is kinda ugly: maybe so, but I won't be looking a lot at the knife, I plan to use it to cut stuff ;)
- no bladeplay, perfect centering

- I've switched the clip with a black one, it's now a match made in heaven :p

- oh yah, it cuts like crazy :)

not so much of a review after all, huh? :)

all in all, I am extremely happy with this knife, it was definitely worth the wait
thanks again to Roger, Sal and everyone at KW and Spyderco for making this happen

hey! looks pretty good with the black clip! gonna have to give that a try.

I think a bead blasted clip would look good too!

Well said.......Nice review:thumbup:

+1 for me........:)

What do you guys use to protect the blade from corrosion? I used Tuf cloth marine but still I am getting rusty spots after cutting apples. Nothing serious but it seems that M4 is much more rust prone than S 3V.. Guess this is the nature of the beast. I would love to see the same lock and handle combination with S90v. M4 is great steel but IMO simply not very practical for a EDC folder blade. And for the record, I guess I got lucky and got none of the issues mentioned in other treads.

I would have never thought to use a black clip. I think it looks nice.

Thanks for the review. I could say about everything you said about the example I received. It is a great knife...it may not be the end of all knife buying as we know it (like some people may have expected) but I think the value to cost ratio was quite good.

Every time I look at the lockbar insert what I see is the incredible ingenuity that went into that excellent bit of design. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder? ;)

Crack me up... :D The Perfect Knife would definitely be "the end of all knife buying as we know it." My wife would be happier! :D

Ehh...you caused me to re-trace my steps. I forgot about the lock bar insert comment. That one I do not agree with (I do not feel it is "kinda ugly"). I see beauty in much the same way I can see beauty in a milled block of metal fresh off a CNC...it is all business and is well steeped in "industrial beauty".

Perfect? What a sad existence we would experience if we were exposed to perfection this early in life...no thanks! It is a FINE knife, but I am still quite excited about my "next knife" which was commissioned during my wait for the M4Mil...see, I knew it was not the end even before I laid eyes upon the box:D

I really need to find one of those ATS-34 Millies one of these days :)

I was lucky enough to be able to score one of these jewels. Too bad production was limited to 200 pieces worldwide. Hope Sal has plans for a similar model as these are, well, basically the pinnacle of Mil production to date. Hoping for a CF front scaled model to hit regular production. Mine was picked up on the secondary market (at a premium) because I missed the boat on the pre-sale. Mine is pretty much flawless but I'm not as anal as some folks around here. Sheesh. A scratch on a pocketknife clip is NOT the end of the world. I was admittedly happy to find mine flawless, don't misunderstand, but IF THERE HAD BEEN a small flaw I wouldn't have posted pics and horror stories over multiple forums. There's some folks that Sal needs to put on some kind of "do not pre-sell to this person" list. :(

Best Mil yet. Keep 'em coming!! :)

I don't get it about the "rust issue". I live in the pacific northwest. It's rained all week. I carry my M4 Millie EDC, cut food, open boxes, cut string and just wipe it on my jeans or a paper towel.
I have never seen a hint of rust. Of course, I used Flitz polish on it after opening the box. Doesn't everyone?

I use either my shirt or my jeans to keep it corrosion free. Seriously. Yes M4 is non stainless, high carbon steel, but it's not particularly rust prone compared to many other carbon steel blades out there. The absolute simplest thing to do is not put it away wet or sticky.

I cut up a big bowl of fruit salad and used nothing more than a little bit of water on a rag to wipe it off, then my jeans to dry it. Not a spot of rust yet. Wiping off your blade should be common sense, even in the age of super stainless steels, in my opinion.
