M4 Ti Military with orange scale---pics

I have seen some posts inquiring about switching scales on the new Ti-M4 Military, and whether or not you could. Last night I decided to give it a try, and it was quite simple to do. I have never disassembled one before, so I practiced on the orange a few times.
The lanyard tube was my main concern, but careful twisting while pulling separated it cleanly with no damage. Same with the Ti version. As a note, on the Ti version the lanyard tube protruded slightly on the g10 side, and this remained after the switch. I tried to just push it in further. Didn't work. I'm sure if I take it apart again this can fixed with a little effort.
Anyways...hope the pics turn out, I've never posted pics before this.

Bill

Very nice is an understatement. Enjoy the change!
Now if you want to swap the M4 blade out for a BG42 one let me know. :)

Terrific! Did you do anything to tilt the odds in your favor as far as the lanyard tube goes? I'm guessing that on the Ti/G10 knife the G10 side is probably going to come off without the tube, but on the G10/G10 knife it's 50-50, logically. ;) I have been thinking about the same swap and was thinking about putting a drop of CLP or something similar where the tube goes into the scale that I want to come off without the tube.

I was just thinking about doing this yesterday! It looks awesome, I just might have to do it. It looks GREAT

Looks great. Somebody should sell loose scales for the Military. I have quite a few combinations I'd like to try with my M4 :D

That's such a great idear. You should do digi-camo next. That would be quite stupendous.

It would be great and I'd be a buyer...but it isn't likely to happen. :(

They were made for the all Ti Millie, but I checked with trix2004 and he didn't see any reason they wouldn't fit on the G10 version. When I checked a few weeks ago he still had some.

I could be wrong, but I think that the G10 scales are a vastly more complicated project. That is because the G10 scales have to machined for the inlaid skeletonized liners. The Ti scales are "just" a slab of Ti (I hesitate to put it that way, but it's true...).

Yep, that makes sense. They would definitely have to be machined for the liners... and if they were made for the Ti Millie that would be a problem! :)

Though.... there is less going on in there than in say the Benchmade Grips, and Kevin Wilkins makes a super aftermarket scale for the Grip. Hmmm.... But then you have that lanyard tubing to contend with. :grumpy:

I have an unlined CF scale that replaced my G10 scale for my M4 military and it is working out fine. I don't think a liner is necessary.

:D Yes, and every time I look at the price of the WG scales I ask myself why on earth I would spend, what, 1.5x the price of the complete knife on replacement scales! :D Beautiful work, tres cher. ;)

I think we're crossing terms here. That knife has nested liners recessed into the CF (or G10) scales. The Ti does not.

Man, orange is super sweet on the ti-g10 millie!
It's worth the effort to finish the lanyard hole properly imho.
Nice experiment! :)
