m4040 kukri knife project

I found that website last year. I sure hope the guy updates it soon. I want to try that project myself. having the blade parkerized (i hope that's the right word) would probably be better than the bluing, but would cost more. As for grinding out the finger hold. He said he did it because it felt more comfortable for him. see how the factory handle feels in your hand. from the pics it looks like grinding it made the paracord fit better.

Did you check out the survival kit that he made for it?

I did his project , slightly modified.
The bluing works fine , IMO paying more for a special finish defeats the point of the project being on the cheap.
I got mind from eBay , it cost about 20$.
It is no HI by any means but it is quite functional. I sanded the blade a lot before I blued it a few times , then gently warmed the steel and applied some CLP and let it cure for a few days.
Here it is with a silver certificate for size comparison.

I re-worked the wooden sheath with sealer , then epoxy and some old Portuguese camo , some straps for support then added a military belt attatchment http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/rebeltf/01010034.jpg
I did some rough reshaping of the handle which I havent finished yet http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/rebeltf/01010033.jpg it's grooved for paracord etc..

All in all it's not a bad blade at all considering the price I paid. The edge is dinged up because I took it out last fall and best the crap out of several stumps and logs in this old lot , I purposly found the hardest looking branches I could find to see how much abe this blade could take , I didnt take pics but I chopped thru a pretty big log about as big around as my leg on this deadstand of Eucalyptus , at one point.
The drawback is the wieght of the whole package , if it was attatched to a pack it wouldnt be so bad but I dont think I'd want to lug it around on my belt all day hiking.
